So here is my issue as someone who uses a camera as a camera and a phone as a phone, I despise the idea that anyone tries to compare this or any camera to a phone camera. It makes it hard to wish to purchase this camera when anyone is like, well it is only slightly better than a phone, that is nonsense. I know that wannabe influencers are a major market but there is still a large amount of people like me who see a camera as a camera and do not care if it shoots 4k video for tiktok.

It's a decent camera, really good starting point for someone getting into photography again or for the first time. His comparisons to phones are silly. Especially considering those phones cost more than this camera. Keep in mind spending on lenses is an investment and upgrading the camera body later allows you to use those investments again.

I would happily live with this camera, every "flaw" I can live with it. Who cares about: 1. Photo effects - Never heard about someone using it. 2. No USB in camera charging - Just use the battery charger. 3. No flip screen - Some high end cameras don't have those neither. 4. Low and short burst in RAW - Ok yeah a little bummer, but sitll. Some people don't get it. The main selling point for me is that you can get a new APSC body for $379 (RN in Amazon) with RF mount compatibility, which is a REAL bargain. The big bummer and deal breaker, is that this is a 1 dial body, meaning that you only have 1 dial to adjust the aperture and shutter. So if you want to learn photography (in manual mode), this is very uncomfortable since you will have to fiddle more to make adjustments on the fly. (I HAVE NO FREAKING IDEA WHY KZbinRS NEVER MENTION THIS!!!)

The single dial is my biggest complaint too. However, the r100 does allow me to reprogram some buttons. My red video record button is now my ISO button. I'll set to Tv mode and bounce between that and ISO pretty quickly with the button there. It's been working "good enough" for me with only the single dial.

Just picked this up for 399. Plan on using it for filing youtube stuff. My cell phone is great, but mounting it every time is a pain. I can just leave this mounted and the 4k 24 fps should be fine for filming tech stuff or me just talking in front of a pc.

LOL. I have a Galaxy s23Ultra and to get a photo that MIGHT compare to any camera with even an aps-c sensor, you have to jump through some annoying hoops. So because of that, a low end mirrorless like the R100 is still easier to use to get a better overall photo

I bought this a few weeks ago and the battery dies so quickly that it’s beyond frustrating. If have. Longer video or don’t want to have to stop mid flow and change the battery for any reason, not the best. It bought it for versatility but regret it, honestly. Hmm good video, but missed a lot of important info here that makes it better than a cell phone. How's iso performance? that 18-55 can be useable if the iso is good enough at high ranges. How's shutter speed? Is there a lag in between pressing the button and the actual image capture? Can I shoot immediately after tuning it on, some older dslrs you can hold the shutter while turning it on and the camera shoots instantly. How is the dynamic range? How much detail is retained in the shadows that can be recovered in RAW. Dont care about video here, mainly photos.

I would say get the canon r100 because it has better overall tech and better quality of life features if budget is not an issue. The r100 is basically a modern version of the t7 . The t7 is a much older camera

You can actually get a refurbished Panasonic G100 with a kit lens for the same price as this right now. Im a huge Canon user but chose the G100. Better for photo and video and it's slightly smaller and lighter. Lenses are way cheaper as well. Just a thought.

If she wants to shoot video i would want to cover all her bases for what she might need now and in the future. You should consider getting a6400 on the lower end and a6700 on the higher end. And speak with her for what lenses she might want depending on what she is shooting. These cameras are a good base that can she expand over time as she gets better at the craft

For someone who owns both I would completely say that’s the r100 is better the t7 takes ages to focus on anything and by the time you do your shot is most likely gone. However if you’re shooting still objects it does have good quality even with a kit lense

As per ususal, a fantastic and comprehensive breakdown. I did find one comment somewhat confusing, as the R100 shoots in 14 bit RAW, which should provide the same amount of editing potential as any other camera. It has the same sensor and processor as the M50 Mk II, albeit, with some imposed limitations. Should it not be very similar, if not in performance, in final image quality?

The company I work for have a Sony A7III, A7C, A6600 and Canon 77d. A7III is a tank, really good. A7c is good but overheats often. A6600 is great too. 77d for is the best feeling camera for stills, tied with the A7III. At home, I still have a really old Canon T3i. I use it for freelancer work, mostly stills since the video quality doesn't hold up as much nowadays. But the stills are amazing and as good as the other cameras from work. At school I've always heard that the lens is what makes a "good" photo, and the camera only matters in some specific cases, so I find it awkward when you talk about this camera as being just a bit better than a normal smartphone. That may be true to amateur people that - to be fair - is the target audience for this product, but were a live a high end camera can easily cost as much as 10 minimum wages. In contrast, R100 is being sold for 2-3. My point is that it can easily be a professional camera if you can't afford a pricier one.

He used the 50 stm prime for the portrait of the girl and for a good amount of the photos based on their quality. The 18-45mm lens is for absolute beginners I recommend getting this camera with better lenses then eventually upgrading to a R5.

The r100 is a great budget option and as i mentioned in this video it has limitations. the r50 is a very safe bet. If youre only doing photography, the canon rp is also a great option, it has a full frame sensor. its probabaly the cheapest entry level full frame camera.

i’d recommend checking out rtings, it’s a website that has comprehensive comparisons and reviews of both cameras as well as an option to compare them essentially side by side. from there you can come to a conclusion on what works for you. from my own research so far which is by no means fully comprehensive, i believe the R100 is generally a better camera than the T7, and is only slightly higher in price (whilst on sale anyways).

The G7. Way more lenses and they are a lot cheaper as well. However, you can actually get a refurbished G100 with a kit lens for $399 right now which is a bit better than the G7. Newer sensor, better EVF, faster continuous shooting etc...

Yes and no. Yes because those are lenses for full frame canon cameras that share the same mount. And no, because there SHOULD be cheaper lenses for aps-c cameras, but canon refuses to produce them and also keep the mount specifications closes so other companies like sigma and tamron cant make lenses for eos-r system..

RF 85 f/1.2 Sure, it costs like 6 times what the camera costs, but you want to put your money into lenses, especially for portraits. An awesome lens will last you decades, camera bodies come and go within 3-5 years.

lens as a whole are costly and expensive but you can usually grab a decent lens for around $200 - 400 USD that will serve any beginner quite well. the Canon EF 75-300mm is around $249 USD and is quite good for beginners or intermediate portraits and closeup photography. i also typically hear pretty good things about the R100’s viewfinder, so maybe your friend simply got a defective unit?

You would ideally need a full frame camera with a fast frame rate. A budget model could be the a6400 or canon r50. An ideal camera would be the r6 mk II or a7c
