R5mk2 users are better off using this fan battery grip, other cameras don't seem to require a cooling fan, however, this is a misunderstanding. If you are a professional user and use it intensively every day, the motherboard inside the camera will be in a high temperature state for a long time, thus reducing the service life. Therefore, many high-end professional users' cameras will start to have various problems after about 3-4 years of use, so do not buy their second-hand cameras.

Great combo!

One serious comment is the transfer speed from the Ethernet port. At 2.5GB, assuming that you have a network that supports it, would be that max your will will get about 280MB speed. but I have CFS card readers that will hit 700-800MB. so about triple the speed. I'm not sure thats worth it. The cooling is cool. pun intended.

I have a 10gb ethernet switch to my pc and my mesh has a 2.5gb plus the mesh is on wifi 6e. I prefer transfer directly through my cfexpress b as well, but if you are a studio photographer and want to show instant results it's more secure to be tethered through ethernet than wifi. And yes...the fan is cool ;)

i would like to see a vid on the how to use the ethernet port
@JaredHoyman16 күн бұрын
Not a bad idea. Thank you for the suggestion.
@armandsaavedra557717 күн бұрын
i wish you could change the batteries without the camera shutting off using the new grip
@JaredHoyman16 күн бұрын
Me too. Hopefully a fix that can be done in a firmware update.
@JaredHoyman16 күн бұрын
You and me both. It would be nice if they can do it with a firmware update.

I will get the R1 before I lug around the r5 II with that grip.
@JaredHoyman12 күн бұрын
Think of it as a fat suit. You can always take it off. The r1 is a hefty one that can’t go on a diet.

can't you leave it on Low during recording and High during standby to avoid any overhearing at all?
@JaredHoyman17 күн бұрын
Yes you can. There is a setting for that. You just can’t change fan speeds during recording.

Twist it? but do you have to bop it?

I don't recall all the words that come out of my mouth. LOL. Where did I say that and what was the context?

can you hot swap the batteries?
@JaredHoyman17 күн бұрын
Unfortunately not. Once you open the battery door it turns off or ends recording. If you are recording a long event for a couple hours you will be fine. If it’s an all day event then I would suggest a vmount battery via usb-c as well.

Do you have issues with overheating in video or do you not shoot high frame rates long?
@drummerg333118 күн бұрын
I have the r6II and I’ve had issues with overheating when shooting 4k60. Makes me wish Canon would come out with an r6C. Maybe when they bring out the r6III they’ll also bring out an r6C with a built in fan.
@mostlymessingabout18 күн бұрын
@@drummerg3331you can probably buy a third party fan for it. since they were made for the R5 "classic"
@kifley1917 күн бұрын
@@drummerg3331does it overheat for 4k 24?
@drummerg333117 күн бұрын
@@kifley19 no, it won’t overheat in 4k24 or 30. The 4k60 lasts about 30-40 minutes depending on the temperature.
@JaredHoyman16 күн бұрын
Without the cooling grip I ran it for about 2hr in normal indoor temp and it didn't shutdown or overheat. I didn't have the patience to do it forever. With cooling grip it will not overheat at all.
@mostlymessingabout18 күн бұрын
Canon should do PoE instead of 2.5Gbps Ethernet. one cable up rule them all 🙃😉
@JaredHoyman17 күн бұрын
@@mostlymessingabout that would be a great idea. All day studio cam non-stop shooting.

It makes the camera unportable. 🙅♀️ #toobig #inconvenient

No worse than an R3 with an integrated grip. Yes it is portable, but definitely more noticeable.

Agree! It’s like a lens. You may not use it all the time but when the right job warrants it you will be glad you have it.
