Canon R5 VS R5C - What's The Difference?

You pose a couple of very good questions. I film in a fixed location so the external fan is not an issue + plus the over sampled 8K to a 4K out put sounds really good. But a Standard R5 in $K mode is almost as good and cheaper......

Until it burns you and shuts down for 5hrs. I don’t think I would compare these to the R5. The gap between the R5C and the R5 is soo big you cannot compare them.

Yeah it includes DPAF & Audio and should be oversampled from the full 8k read out so will look better. Thanks so much for being here Maarten

I've read that R5, uses for video, the early version of DPAF, as well. Switching to DPAF 2 only in photo mode, just like R5c. Are you 100% certain that R5 uses DPAF2 in video? mode? Are you positive it R5

I have Windows 8 so I can't use HV. 165. As files are not detected in resolve u less I have the codec from Microsoft bu tneed win 10 to download it via the store, but there was a free version but I don't know if it still is. Not found a work around, but I've not dared to update OS. But once I get a new pc that won't be an issue. So this is why I only shoot 2.7k cus it gopro hero7 black does not use the HV.165 on that resolution, but it does on 4k, so I had to use handbrake to covert it which took alo tof time sometimes even left artifacts in the footage, and CPU usage was high and temps over 90. But nex tpc will have better cooling and will be a editing beast. I am thinking rtx3090 and most powerful CPU k van get, 62gb ram, might be overkill but more memory does not hurt, ssd for os and ssd for editing. But deciding on a monitor is hard.

How’s the battery life on the r5c when only in photo mode. Same as r5 ?

After looking some more I finally found a R5, should I get it? Or wait? One of my concerns is the stuff I heard about the overheating. The Sony a7IV is not in stock anywhere yet I think.

Yeah overheating is for sure an issue. But only really when at the higher resolutions. Have you considered the r6? I know two people with it and absolutely love it!!

Wahhh wahh no IBIS 🤣 I'm fine with that omission. Honestly it looks awesome, despite the fact the C70 is only about £200 more. My R6 is constantly DC powered haha but yeah power drain would be a concern. H.265 is all the R6 records in using 10bit clog, luckily my beefy laptop smashes through it alright. The C70 & R5c are so close, it would be a hard push between them for me. C70 bigger batteries, ND filters, audio inputs and more weight for stability is great but R5c is full frame, which makes a difference for me with a smaller studio, it's also £300 cheaper and that's quite a bit to me. Plus it has a whole photo camera built in. Very close call. I'd want a C70 but I'd probably end up going R5c haha

It's funny that we are so spoiled an 8 second wait to get a completely different and accurate shooting mode is an issue. I'm like WOW only 8 seconds, yee effing haa.

hahaha so true... it is providing a completely different OS in that 8 seconds, like the definition of hybrid. Certainly quicker than pulling out a second cam for Photogs!!

@@120fps No it is not.. Good to have but not important. Millions of gimbals... The only important thing is autofocus. Electronic IBIS and Lens stabilisation is more than good enough...you are just looking for issues mate.. A camera like that - you should be grateful

@@m77ast looking for issues… is kind of the point when making a comparison which is what this video is. Comparing two cameras. On a side note af is not important to filmmakers, we never actually use it, it’s for solo shooters and vloggers.

@@120fps I guess we can say Thats to the millions of professional videographers who did not but the S1H because of the autofocus. It is true that one might not require autofocus however sometimes that low aperture makes the shot look nice or perhaps shooting a vlog. A god autofocus is not just required - it’s essential.

The people that need the C70 would buy it. I dont know why you keep talking about the C70. I WOULD NEVER EVER BUY THE C70 because it is not a HYBRID CAMERA. It does not take pictures.

Becuase the c70 and r5c are very closely priced and the r5c is the first hybrid in the cinema range. So they’re in the same range of cameras and similarly priced and spec’d. Why wouldn’t you talk about it?

Totally get that dude. And I’m with you, as a video only shooter the c70 is the only choice for me and by the sounds of it you too. I’m just really surprised that canon decided to break the divide between the C range and the EOS range. It’s a weird play from them, and I’m not sure I like it!!

@@120fps 😀😀 I like you. You don’t want me to be able to have access to the level of work today you can achieve as a video person. Well thank God for competition - Sony and Nikon. What is important is this 50,000 people buying a c70 at 6k is not as profitable as 1 million people buying a R5C at under 5K. And I think 1 million is an underestimation. If I’m buying that camera believe me there are millions of other people they are going to buy it because I know what I’m looking for.
