The trick to save your battery is turn on airplane mode so your camera isn't constantly waiting for wifi/bluetooth connections. That will increase your battery life!

Thanks for the review. I own the R50 since July this year and it bring back my love for Photography. My first real camera (after some compact cameras in the 2000s) was the Canon EOS 550D in 2011. The R50 is of course much more compact and powerful.

Also a professional photographer once told me, its not the lense that makes a great photo, its the photographer that makes a great photo. What he meant is that a skilled photographer can take a better quality photo with a cheap lense then an amateur photographer using an expensive lense.

Good point. This is my own experience. One should get good training from some professional photographer and practice a lot under varying conditions. Still it is one's talent and keen eye which makes a large difference. I may tell you that years ago One of the top photographers of India, Late Mr. Ragubir Singh (He was my photography Guru and a wonderful person) showed me his photographs and one centre photographs was so good that I could not believe my eyes. I foolishly commented that he must have used a most advanced camera. He laughed and told me that he uses a simple pin hole camera. Keep up.

Tilta makes a grip extension bracket specifically for R50. Cost me $20. Helps a lot with holding and protects it

For portability, small body cameras are great. Let me tell you, when you just wanna go for a photo walk, carying a FF camera body and a zoom lens gets really old really quick.
@johnwinter6061Ай бұрын
Not if you buy a mirrorless. There's not much weight differences between FF and APS-C for Canon R series. Sure it;'s the same for others. Both much lighter than mirrored. Both body and lens.

nice review. I have been looking and I haven't been able to find a single video on the R50 showing how to set white balance for a custom white balance off a grey card. I seen a really good short on the R10. I'm hoping it is the same on the R50 but no proof yet. Maybe if you get a chance you could make a short video showing how it's done on your R50. Just an idea. Thanks

That's a great first mirrorless. I had to buy a 2nd R50 because my partner wanted mine. It's a great B-cam to my R6.

I bought the r100 first to get my first mirrorless camera and then my wife fell in love with the camera so I went out a week later and got the r50 for myself and gave her the r100. But are going to be written off as business expenses. lol

Very similar in so many ways to my Canon XC10. Just be careful if you get caught in the rain. These cameras get destroyed easily once water gets in. As for heat stress my XC10 has a fan but it's fairly noisy and in the end the heat usually wins. Couldn't you run outside power to this via the USBC connection? Instead of stuffing around with those little batteries

I've already watched 50 or maybe more movies. I'm considering purchasing. I'm thinking about the one from Canon R50, Sony zv-e10 and Panasonic Lumix G80. I plan to use the camera mostly to take photos, and I have a big dilemma. The R50 would be perfect, only these lenses worry me, when I look at the prices I'm shocked. Zv-e10 has relatively cheap lenses, but I'm not entirely sure about the size, and I know that the lack of a touch screen will probably bother me, while the lumix g80 has hardware stabilization, from what I saw, cheap lenses, touch screen, but it has problem with autofocus. :( I'm at a loss.

If you get a small rig cage it will make it a little more comfortable to grip.

Kay, I just got a 18 to 200mm lens F4.6 to F6.0. So far, used it for a week. I like the range. From wide angle to medium telephoto.
@thekaydubz4 ай бұрын
Wow that's a good zoom range! I've been looking into the new Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 that they just released for APSC Canon RF mount. I really want a large aperture F2.8. Unfortunately I don't have the money to spend on one yet

What is your camera lenght in total please? I mean with the R50 body + 18-150mm lens (closed to 18mm) + JJC lens hood (from the viewfinder to the end of the lens hood)? I am looking for the camera bag with correct lenght, but not too big. Thanks!
@thekaydubz6 ай бұрын
From the main camera body to the end of the lens hood looks like it's exactly 6 inches. From the viewfinder to the lens hood is exactly 6.5 inches

Do you think this is a better option than g7x mark ii?
@thekaydubz2 ай бұрын
For sure! Technically the R50 should be better in almost every aspect and will be better in the long run since you can always change lenses. I say get the G7X mark ii if you really value the small, compact form or want something more "fun" to bring around in your pocket.

Nah this is a Canon RF-S lens made for their APS-C cameras so it's made for it. Actually any full frame RF lens would fit on this even though this is a crop sensor
