Absolutely on point! R5C is a Netflix-approved hybrid camera, capable of shooting astounding 8K RAW footage at 60fps-it's a long-term investment, easily lasting a decade. Snagged four pristine EF prime lenses (24, 50, 85, 125) for under $2100-a steal for incredible image quality! Enhancing it further with an adapter with ND filter, and external battery has been fantastic (I don't take the adapter off). The seamless compatibility with my DJI RS 3 Pro just elevates the entire experience. Personally, I use the Nitze PA28M-AK top handle, the QR lock on it is so easy to use and allows me to quickly take it on and off. R5C gives so many options that I decided to use it all the time. Edit: If anyone strugles with 8K, at Super35 crop mode you can shot 6K at 60fps RAW :)

12:20 - Canon seriously don't get enough credit on how seamlessly they're able to have their mirrorless RF mount communicate almost flawlessly with their old EF mounts especially when it comes to autofocus. When sony switched to mirrorless they totally dumped their A mount, like completely! Whereas Canon was able to still make full use of it all.

I have moved more towards video but have been using the R5C for two years and absolutely love it still. Doing RAW photos to doing RAW videos was so useful for me even with the rig I’ve made. I’m getting an FX3 and a FX30 soon to have my home setup be stationary for me to bring my R5C out more often while that low-light and shadow detail from the FX3 and FX30 take over home studio work! Gimbal, Cine Tripod or even handheld with the R5C has been beautiful! The only issue was the battery and the weight of rigging it out but with a rat bag or a good set of legs and arms, still my favorite camera to shoot with

Great review! As a BMPCC4k owner and having always used Nikon for photography, I’m looking for a camera that combines both for film/docu projects in the mountains, such as mountaineering/trekking, sometimes over long periods but also potentially for everyday classic shoots. Initially, I was set on the Nikon Z8, but I struggle with the image rendering in video-it’s not organic enough for my taste, it feels too clinical, good for commercial/advertising work but not what I’m looking for (more of a film-like look). I’m now hesitating between the Sony Alpha 1 and the Canon R5C for both photo and video use outdoors in challenging conditions in the wilderness. I also considered the Fuji GFX II medium format for its organic video rendering and what it offers in photography, but there are too many constraints for me. Any thoughts between the Sony A1 and the R5C? Thanks!
@dustinschmidtphotoАй бұрын
I can’t comment on the A1 specifically because I haven’t used it. But it’s certainly a very capable camera. Obviously I made my choice and went with the R5C, so I CAN say that I’m a big fan of the R5C and what it can do. If you’re deciding then you may consider what lenses you currently own and that may help you figure out which way to go. If you own EF glass then it probably makes more sense to go Canon rather than buying all new Sony lenses. You really can’t go wrong with Canon or Sony though. Both are very capable.
@yankfrАй бұрын
@@dustinschmidtphoto Thanks for your feedback. For now, my choice also remains the R5C despite everything. Regarding lenses, I want to completely switch my range to lighter optics than my previous F/DX lineup (Nikon 16-80 2.8 & Sigma 120-300 2.8 first version, sooo heavy in mountains). I’m thinking of opting for these three lenses for mountain trips/expeditions: RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM, RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM, and RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM, and later adding a Nisi Athena kit or other cinema lenses as needed. As for the R5C, I’m waiting a bit longer before deciding to see if Canon mentions an R5C II with C-log2, for example, in 2025, but I’m not sure that will happen - we’ll see! In any case, I notice that regardless of the reviews on KZbin, everyone who has it is happy with it 🙂 Have a good day!

@@DaEssence7 I think a 24-70 is already a great documentary lens actually. Guys like Matthew Heineman have used that lens to shoot many Oscar worthy docs. For talking heads I like fast primes for background separation in situations where you don't know what locations you may have available to you for interview setups and you need all the speed you can get. Something like a 35 and 50 prime to start. Then you can build out to opposite ends of that range and get a 24 and 85. If you're shooting commercials then primes are ideal as well, but possibly cinema style primes, that have manual focus and longer focus rotation, as well as consistent t-stops.

For photo i would sell my soul to get the R3 with the cinema menu from the R5c. the R3s auto flicker detect... but also the R5Cs 45 MP, but keep the R3s speed and backilluminated sensor.. (Maybe the R1 will have all that, and i can switch my two photo camera setup out for a 1 photocamera setup) For the video side i just love the build in ND in the C70s and two of them match super easy if you have lenses that match. My setup for the R5C is the ND adaptor to EF and a V mount from FX lion as the one you use, it solved the battery life perfectly. Lovely camera.
