What Pokemon you choosin'?? Black Friday Buying Advice: 1) If the RP or R excite you, AND have a need - pick one up while on discount. Still probably awhile before we see rumored and available bodies. 2) If you want the high speed shooting or 4k video capabilities of the R6+ - wait/save. 3) Otherwise - wait/save/snag "boring" accessories. I've purchased many Black Friday storage devices 🤣

The RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM was the lens I started out with for the R6. It became my favorite lens while I owned it. It is very versatile and is the one lens you can use to take almost any kind of picture you can think of. It's a great starting lens for the RF system. If it's out of your budget, I think the RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM is the next best thing. It has the same field of view we see with disposable cameras, so you'll get used to it quickly. You can always crop in to get the field of view of a 50mm lens and it's sharp enough that you won't have an issue. The image stabilization makes it better for the occasional video recording we all like to do over the 50mm that doesn't have IS.

That 24-105mm is great, there’s a few more vids on that lens on my channel. Got it with my RP as a kit and it’s been my workhorse for the last three years on the R6!

I really like the video. Well done 👍 Would you recommend in terms of versatility to get the RF-S 55-210mm f/ 5-7.1 IS STM lens instead? I’ll be using Canon R10 with the 35mm and the 50mm as well.
@DanYosua
@DanYosua 9 ай бұрын
Thanks! If you think you'll like shooting on the longer end for outdoor sports or wildlife then you will appreciate the reach of 210mm more than 105mm. I'm not super familiar with the RF-S lenses, but the RF-S 18-150mm might be the most versatile focal range to compliment what you already have.

I'm thinking to buy Canon EOS RP camera to use it for stopmotion videos, what is the best lens for that?
@DanYosua
@DanYosua 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know much about stop motion, but it probably depends on how big your "set" is. If you only have a small space to work in, maybe the 35mm or the 24-105 zoom.

Thanks for this video! I got the RP bundled with RF 50mm f1.8. Already considering the RF80mm f2 as my next lens but i saw that 24-105mm f4 is a good one also. I mostly shoot street photography and some b rolls. Your thoughts on which one to choose?
@DanYosua
@DanYosua 2 жыл бұрын
I think it depends how much you think the 1:2 macro will be useful for you and how sure you think you are about liking 85mm. Because otherwise, the RP + 50mm 1.8 + (either of the 24-105s) is an extremely versatile 2 lens setup.

Im thinking about getting the RF 18-150mm STM kit lens as general purpose lens, RF 50mm STM for portraits And lastly, 10-18mm STM for wide angles. Is it good enough for starters?

Even one is good enough to start! I only had the nifty 50mm for awhile when I started. But that trio would be great to explore which focal lengths you like best over time.

This is exactly the dilemma I'm going through. I'm the king of indecision with lots of things and this is no different. I picked up at R8 last week along with the 50mm lens but I'm already itching for more and can't decide if I should get the 35mm or the 24-105 next! Of course I might just break down and get both. (And then I'll need a bigger bag too...)
@DanYosua
@DanYosua 4 ай бұрын
Nice, the R8 is excellent! I've been using it for the last 6 months to compliment my R6 and would recommend that over the RP these days for most people. It depends on what you want to shoot, but if you haven't tried a zoom before, it would be nice to have that range, and continue to learn more about your preferences in that range. The 35mm is great too, though I've navigated toward the 28mm in recent years.

@@DanYosua I'm loving it so far! I actually bought an R50 a couple weeks ago. Mrs. P knew I'd want to upgrade to a full frame one sooner or later and told me I might as well just take it back and get the R8 now. As soon as she said that I did! I had a couple zoom lenses for my old Nikon (D3100? Years ago.) I do kind of miss the convenience but I also love the pictures I'm getting with the prime. Right now I'm mostly using it for pictures of the kids (and the wife) but will be doing much more this summer.

hi I have a question I want to buy the RF 35mm f1.8 lens or the 50mm f1.8 for portrait and macro photography but I am not sure which is best for me I use the Canon R7 with the kit lens of 18-150mm
@DanYosua
@DanYosua 6 ай бұрын
If dabbling in macro is a high priority, then I'd look at the 35mm. Otherwise, I'd recommend using your kit lens as if it were a prime for a handful of shoots. Constrain yourself to 35mm for a few shoots, 50mm for a few others. With either the 35 or 50 you'll get better low light performance and subject isolation, but that exercise will start to give you an idea of your focal length preferences.

In that case I think the 85 will probably be more used. For me, I would want the 100-400 more for outdoor sports, or as a wildlife/landscape type lens. So if you do a bit of those too it might make sense.

From the reviews I have read, the 50mm and 24-105mm inexpensive lenses are fast focusing and sharp enough. The 35mm might be too slow to focus. The 85mm sounds good, but is slower in focusing. For street photography, as example, focusing must be fast.
@DanYosua
@DanYosua 2 жыл бұрын
That is a good call out, the 35 and 85 are a bit less snappy with the macro.
@lorenschwiderski
@lorenschwiderski 2 жыл бұрын
@@DanYosua If the 35mm is fast enough on single point focusing, I might give it go some day. I am liking 50mm on the street, at this time, though the extra width is good in some cases. Anyway, the 50mm is a best choice prime as a first choice, IMO.
@DanYosua
@DanYosua 2 жыл бұрын
Single point is pretty good, though it'll feel slower if you're going from reallly close to really far on the 35/85. Otherwise if you're jumping around focus at mid-range, probably not a huge issue.

I was thinking what lens is better for group shot/restaurant/nightclub canon rf 50mm 1.8 stm or 24 -105 mm ? Help please ^_^
@DanYosua
@DanYosua 2 жыл бұрын
This one is bit tougher to know - if you're doing a lot of group shots, the end wider than 50mm is going to be your friend, especially when inside. It'll be a lot darker wide open at f4... but you'll likely want to shoot at around f4+ to keep everyone in a group in focus anyway. I think probably 24-105 is the way to go here, but knowing that you may need some flash power depending on ambient light/how much noise you want. 50 f1.8 is going to be a better option for a person or two in these darker environments though.
