How long does the batteries last and do you recommend rechargeable batteries ?

Batteries are only supposed to last 100-120 shots. I just recommend them for the waste aspect of using all that material.

i used to shoot with regular battery on this same camera until i switched over to rechargeable battery and voila i am none too happy i did ...

how do you turn on the flash? even when I manually raise my flash it doesn't work?

You might have it off in the settings. If not you might have a defective flash bulb.
