Hey Kasey, Try the STANDARD Profile on the Nikon, the colors are so much nicer there. You have to tweek it tho to look natural. Turn Sharpness -0.5 Midrange Sharpness +2.0 Clarity -1.0 Contrast -1.0. I saw a South African wildlife shooter who reviewed the 200-800. She said it's best used on subjects up to 30m away, which is pretty close. Focusing on faraway subjects, like the trees that Gordon Lang shot, introduces atmospheric distortion like what you saw. Even an 800mm F/5.6 would show that. But on songbirds at a reasonable distance and in good light, the RF 200-800 will be brilliant. Imagine it on your EOS R. The RF 10-18 will put your R into crop mode automatically, BTW. So it'll function like a 16-29 in FF. That's decent.
@gavthane Жыл бұрын
She actually said that “any” lens is best up to 30m away, because of the atmospheric distortion, especially in hotter climates. This applies to any telephoto lens.

The f9 sounds worse than it is. Add a 1.4 TC to a 600 f6.3 and, surprise, you‘re at f9. Plus it has the same weight as a 200-600. Even the 800 f11 is not as bad as it sounds, so this one with all its flexibility will sell like hot cake. If you have the budget and the muscles you‘re free to get the 800 f5.6
@jeffbronson3696 Жыл бұрын
The problem is that from 200-600mm, the Canon is slower than the Nikon and Sony by 1/3 to 2/3 stops at all focal lengths. Brings down the versatility of the 200-800mm. Further, the external zoom requires about 140 degrees of rotation (ie, twisting the zoom ring with your entire hand 3-4 times), whereas the Nikon and Sony variants are internal zooming and only require 60 degrees of turning which can be done with your fingers

3:30 I don't think you're going into diffraction on that one, if you calculate it for 700nm (deep visible light red, your possible worst case scenario) you are diffraction limited at roughly 7.5um pixels, meaning that smaller ones at that wavelength fall into diffraction. Your camera, the A7s III has bigger pixels than that so you're mostly good to go. My guess is that the lens gets less sharp at f11, which is plausible, mix that with natural light that's not favorable to your shot and you get something that just feels cheaper. Probably it has something to do also with the "processing" that Sony does to their footage and how the camera software works at small apertures, but, don't quote me on that.

@hbp_ Жыл бұрын
Well, I'm surprised that it's so cheap compared to anything of similar quality. Take for example ZEISS LWZ.3 that will cost you more than a double and it's not even FF. Ok, it's parfocal and has zero breathing etc, so you'll actually get some value for the money, but it's not as fast or lightweight. Canon's previous attempt in EF was toneh 4. What else is even available that is comparable and compatible? Angénieux EZ series perhaps, but those are 10..20k lenses and you'd need two to cover the same range. However, I only have an EOS R and I don't think I want another RF mount camera.
@dantecooper4705 Жыл бұрын
24-105 is greatly priced! Think about it this way. This is the first of its kind that can go on a camera and never come off. I shoot weddings with a 24-70 2.8 and the 135 1.8. This lens literally will replace these. The difference between 105 and 135 is like 2 steps back or forward. Those lenses cost about $4500 together. 1 lens $1500 less Canon just said here ya go we just did you a favor. Now my R6 will have the 35 1.8 for macro work and the 16 2.8 for tight rooms but, this lens will not leave my R5 body

I have the 100-500 and 1.4x tele and the 800F11. In my opinion the 100-500 on its own is a great lens but for birding often its not enough reach. The 800F11 has helped me get some great shots on my R7 but you need the light and I have been caught several times where a bird perches 10 feet from me and I can't get the shot because of the large minimum focus distance of the 800F11. The 100-500 with the 1.4x tele brings you to F10 and 700mm so you lose a little reach over the 800F11 and basically not much difference in light. Comparing that combo to the 800F11 with the image zoomed in to the same size the quality I saw was very similar. Now, the new 200-800 I think is going to be a good middle ground pricewise and at the long end still has more reach and F9 over the L series and supposedly has a much shorter minimum focus distance so it will be more versatile. Not to mention being cheaper and less worry if you drop it or it gets stolen. I think its going to be a big seller.

The canon R100 has a huge 1.55x crop in 4k, making the crop factor 2.5. So even the 10-18 would be a 25-45 equivalent lens, and be a little tight for vlogging. Not to mention, if you need digital stabilization, it crops even more. So it's not as practical as you make it out to be. Note that the wide lens is an APS-C lens, so not the best on your EOS R.

The 24-105 F2.8 will seriously SUCK! They cant even design a sharp 24-105 F4, wish I hadnt gone to them from Sony...

F9 is way too much. F7.1 would have been the limit. But unfortunately Canon still Apple of the cameras...😢

At 800mm your options are limited. 7.1 would balloon the price and weight.

90% off - off what? 12 months ago I bought a GH6 with 400€ "off"/ aka cashback. Though the price of the GH6 went UP before 200€. So don´t be idiots, and check the price of the last 3-6 months.

Canon 100-500: I feel that there must be two versions of this lens. Camp A says this lens is super sharp, amazing, best lens ever, yadi, yadi. Camp B says this lens as merely adequate sharp but only in full or near full Sun, its a dust and moisture vacuum, bad AF performance, ridiculously long zoom throw, poor quality/durability overall, not good with TC's, and a few other minor cons. I have used it on an R5, and I am in Camp B. The AF performance is horrible, the sharpness is not good, the zoom throw is way too much, TC's are a total no-go, and on the whole its a kit quality lens that should only cost maybe $1200. When I see pictures people post online it is obvious that this lens has inferior resolving power, and folks are having to do heavy denoise, post bokeh, and post sharpening to get the images look at least ok. It is more expensive than the Z 100-400, Z 180-600 and E 200-600, while being clearly inferior to all three of those options.

Hmmm… I do hate the way the RF100-500 handles TCs but oh boy, it does capture extremely sharp pictures. The AF surely is fast but not always quick enough to capture the subject when it is not positioned ideally (e.g. bird on a branch and lots of distracting other branches surrounding it). I do like the RF100-500 simply due to the fact that is my favorite travel lens for hiking and birding as it has a close focus distance, so I can also take macro-ish pictures of insects, flowers, etc and 100mm is also great for portraits of my kids/wife.

The 100-500 is extremly sharp. That is the truth.
@KungPowEnterFist Жыл бұрын
@@siljuholtet Then I think you'll love the RF 200-800, as it will be "extremely sharp" to you. I will reserve judgement until I get to try one. From very few reviews with image samples I have seen so far, it looks to be a spectacular white turd. Not just any white turd. Spectacular!

Get rid of all your stupid zoom lenses, and buy just primes, and use the Sony Clear Image Zoom, which is almost lossless, since it's cropping on the high megapixel sensor (your a7S III has a 48MP sensor). If you get a 300mm f/2.8, with CIZ you can have 300-600mm f/2.8 (photo & HD) or 300-450 f/2.8 (4K)! You are welcome! Just have in mind that the CIZ works only before pixel binning kicks in ("dual ISO"), otherwise it's just a stupid digital zoom!

I'm not impressed by a 24-105 f2.8 when tamron already put out a 35-150 f2 months ago. If you want lens selection go with Sony or Nikon. Canon is for suckers who want to be trapped into buying only Canon gear.
