I was a huge believer in Canoo. I still love how it looks.

I really wanted one too! Both the truck and the LSV were so unique and packed with features in a small space. Just hoping some of the other EV startups don't meet the same fate. BTW, I've enjoyed watching your videos. Keep it up!

Sad stuff. I have only casually followed Canoo, but thought they would make it. I mean, the product sure looks legit and I can easily see a commercial market for it that is not being served today.

Im really hoping Aptera doesn't go down the same road.

They are at least farther than Canoo ever was. Somewhere in the middle of getting serial manufacturing in line. My guess is that every Canoo was completely hand-mangled. We have no clue how far they ever were in terms of serial production. Any Aptera - seems - to be very cautious when it comes to spending. Then again we do not know true, internal info on any of those, do we…

You speak for all of us. Great concept and a new, unique way to look at what an electric pickup should look like. Sniff, sniff, I will go sit in my oversized gas pickup truck and sob for a bit.

Definitely a fan and believer in Canoo, hopefully some kind of angel investor will come in to keep it afloat. We need more competition and new ideas.

I knew it was getting risky when Tony started having a clause on his new shares that gave him first right to the equipment in case of bankruptcy. That said, the last couple of years they have tried hard to come up with non-dilutive financing. Going into production without it would have just made them go bankrupt faster. Companies like Fisker going under so spectacularly made it even harder to get financed. I sold off half when it was $1.76 and the rest at .78 the morning before Greg resigned. I wish all of them the best. I lost about 11K but knew going in it was risky. Like many I was stoked about the product and really wanted to see them succeed. I know a lot of people like to talk trash about Tony but he had more skin in the game than anyone else and I believe he tried. He was handed a mess when he stepped in.

"Like many I was stoked about the product and really wanted to see them succeed." Agree with that, but two items changed my mind. 1. They let some idiot put out a video in which he was riding on the bench part of the seating which is at right angles to the line of travel (parallel to the side) without a seat belt. Naturally he came off during a mild deceleration. I was very interested in an ID. Buzz-type vehicle, but do not think that corner booth arrangement is safe. 2. Tony Aquila private jet service seemed to be the principal Canoo expenditure. In combination with shady complexities of his previous employ which significantly involved private jet travel, it looked to me like Aquila is using Canoo as personal vehicle for big deal executive cosplay at shareholders' & creditors expense.

In my humble opinion, Forward Control is the way to go with electric trucks. The bed is the money maker, and a frunk is basically "worthless" on a truck. Canoo has it right. Maybe TOO right, and that may have been their undoing. It's possible they had a little "Tucker Trouble" from other manufacturers.

just bad timing in the economy. too darn bad, they had a great concept.

These cab-forward truck and van designs by startups make more sense than the EV trucks from big manufacturers that have a giant frunk for no reason.

I wish that Canoo could have picked a product and a market then stuck with it. Modularity is great, but not as great as having one viable model that strikes gold.

Do these companies pivot to Texas as a ‘last ditch effort’ to save money on downsizing costs (e.g. because there’s so much less labor protections for employees in Texas compared to California)? Like… how do you justify moving your employees out to Texas just before collapsing?

I wanted a CANOO pickup BAD. But, I kept waiting & waiting & waiting... But when I read that several months after production had STARTED Canoo had built only 23 vehicles. Thats when I ran out of patience & bought a Ford Maverick. MAYBE, RIVIAN will build me an R2T 4 motor someday. Even a Ford Maverick Lightning. !

I hope some other company buys the rights to make them. If Aptera succeeds they would fit the brand. Rivian could also but that could eat into their profits of what they're already making. VW might not want them too either (ID BUZZ). Lucid probably wouldn't want to be associated with them. Maybe a Japanese or Chinese company given how dense some of their cities are, but Japan isn't too big on EVs and China doesn't care about copyrights to begin with so if they wanted to, they'd just do it.
@wuffy682 күн бұрын
Legacy Japanese car makers are averse, but I would think other Japanese _companies_ may want to take the opportunity to get in the game. I was thinking Sony or India's Mahindra would want to stake their name in the US EV market - before tariffs hit - but opinions on that prospect in Discord were negative. But Canoo has everything in place except funding to start production - the acquisition or partnership could save a company like Mahindra $100s of millions in startup costs. They have $4B in cash on hand and just started a new line of EV SUVs made in India.

@ I forgot that Mahindra exists and that they made the Roxor which I thought was cool.
