Summer, I think you worry way too much a what people say in comments. You are a beautiful person inside and out and you owe no explanations about your daily life. You do you! Cody is energetic, creative and a good man, easy to tell. Love you guys for sharing about your life's journey and I applaud you for your accomplishments. BRAVO!

The shovel you have is for scooping coal into the old coal furnaces to heat homes and outbuildings. As a child my family lived in homes with coal furnaces and I helped my father occasionally with this chore. We did use it outside to clear snow also because many tools were multipurpose that time.

Happy Birthday Summer!!! Add some of the herbs mentioned on the nesting pads. It will help with the mites. I have also seen people put a small kiddie wading pool in the chicken area and the Diatomaceous earth in the pool for the chickens to take a "dust bath" which rids them of the mites.

Helpful hint. When using diatomaceous earth. You're supposed to only use a light dusting. If you put a thick layer, it won't be effective. I have ceramic eggs to put under my broody hens. I got them from Tractor Supply

Check out Becky’s Homestead, she’s an expert on Chickens. She says chickens need protein, canned tuna or other canned meat. I’m sure you can find inexpensive meat or worms. The reasons they keep picking is because the red on the picked chicken reminds them of meat. Give them more meat and that should end your picking problem.

My birthday is in August and back when I was doing basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood I had to deal with that wonderful Mo. weather/humidity and those damn little sweat bees that would on us and lap up the salt off our collective skins. The point is that I too am familiar with summer weather in "The show mw state". Hang in there we're all pullin for y'all.

go watch a few episodes of the “fit farmer” his chicken tractors are awesome. definitely a little more space will help with the pecking, but it is just a chicken thing too. i had multiple levels for my girls and places the could roost. i have seen people build a secondary coop/area, and they just built a tunnel to those areas. so they are protected but can still free range i also never locked my girls up at night, hardly had any “arguing” amongst them. you’ll figure out what works for you.

You can spread the diatomaceous earth easier if you use a condiment bottle. It will get in the cracks better.
@ohiofarmer19873 ай бұрын
As long as your puppies "I know they have not been around the birds since they were puppies" won't chase the birds I would just leave the run door open, this will also eliminate your birds from picking on each other. The hawks and snakes should only really be a threat in the morning or evening. We live in Ohio and have some similar predators. On another note you should only have bedding under the roosting bars to collect the poo. Just another way of achieving the same goal... If you decide to get another pup at some point as I know you will, raise the pup interacting with your animals and they will protect them as one of the pack. We have Great Pyrenees. Happy Birthday Summer!!

Happy Birthday Summer! I use DE around my house. Havent actually used it since I moved to Tn, the amount of cob webs and spiders all over my outside is irritating, so may need to get the DE spread around. But I do believe if you use it around the outside of your house or in your case the coop, it needs to reapplied if it gets rained on. Im sure there are more experts on the DE subject that can correct me if I am wrong on that. Have a blessed week and weekend

The chicken don't normally eat when they are sitting on their eggs until the chickens are Hatch. They will leave the nest periodically, but they get back in time to keep the eggs at the right temperature. So let them alone they know what they are doing .
