I would say that you have wonderfully shown how overpriced the products are. You are very talented and encouraging 🌻🐞
@heidil.46513 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say overpriced at all. You’re paying for someone’s creative idea, the craftsmanship, labor and supplies to bring that idea to reality. They are paying people’s salaries. We are recreating someone else’s product. That’s why it’s easy (and cheap) for us and most of the time it’s not the same quality.
@butwhytho48583 жыл бұрын
Agreed that the price is paying for original creativity. I also agree it’s slightly over priced. Supply and demand tends to make that possible... If I ran magnolia and ppl were willing to pay these prices, I’d be silly NOT to charge a premium. These remakes also say things like, “I just had paint, modge podge, wood, etc on hand” and call that free. That was not free.. it cost something. Even if someone gave her these items, they aren’t ‘free’. Someone somewhere paid for it and it’s not being averaged into the cost. Same goes for thrift store finds. Just because she finds a candle stick for $2 doesn’t mean that was the production price for that item lol. Kind of unfair to compare the two. HOWEVER, I do like how this shows we don’t HAVE to pay the Magnolia prices IF we have time and determination to be thrifty and crafty.
@d__extraordinary1753 жыл бұрын
I actually like your projects better than the originals. Yours are more thought out and more sturdy. Just because those items have an expensive price tag doesn’t always mean they are the best quality. They seem like they’re factory made with no character. Your items have a special touch ! You have a keen eye for detail ! Plus you’re very classy ! Your voice is comforting as well. 👑

I didn’t realize everything was made in China, but I guess I’m not surprised. On “Shark Tank,” the sharks are always encouraging entrepreneurs to manufacture their products in China to keep the costs down. It is sad that “Made in America” doesn’t hold the value it once did. Thanks for watching and commenting, Elaine.

I love your dupes. I think that your spindle candlestick holders would’ve been prettier with the dollar tree rounds they have in the crafters square. Added or even doing 2 separate sizes of them glued together to give weight and some more height and chunkiness (maybe the packs from hobby lobby as they’re only a couple of dollars as well) looking at your ideas to dupe these very expensive and beautiful pieces, in hindsight(you’re brilliant by the way) to try to figure out how to make them as nice or nicer then the magnolia ones. I actually think I would’ve liked your idea with the 2 sizes of wood rounds painted and distressed better than the expensive magnolia version. Definitely more affordable options to have a stunning home so thank you 😊

I’m loving all of your dupes! Regarding the agate dupe; Have you tried “Triple Thick”? I absolutely love it for projects such as the agate. One of the reasons I like it is you can adjust the level of gloss by controlling how much you load your brush with. I’ve found it’s wonderful for the “fire glazed” look - such as the finish on the original wall pockets you duped last week, or the botanical imprints. To mimic the imprints which have color inside the imprint, I dilute a chalk paint in a color such as “mineral”, and using a very thin artists brush, apply it to the inside of the impression. It isn’t dark enough to leave a dark line of demarcation - and when I then thinly apply the triple thick, it turns out looking like the Magnolia design. A tip; when using Triple Thick, it’s important to work quickly, and to not go over the same place twice (any longer than 15-20 seconds after you went over it the first time), because it dries pretty quickly, and going back over it once it’s become “tacky” actually can work against you by “picking up” the first layer. I know this sounds like a lot of work, but it truly isn’t.. I suggest practicing with it for a bit on scrap surfaces you will be using it on for projects. Once you get the feel of working with it, it’s easy, offers many options in terms of finishes, and the small amount of time spent on practicing is well worth it.
@CanterburyCottage3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, “Varuca”! I bought some Triple Thick a couple of years ago for something. I think I used it once or twice. The last time I tried to use it, I couldn’t get the lid off! I certainly did not know you could use it on clay! You have convinced me that it is time to buy another jar!

But really, sometimes I don't know, or have the time, to figure out how to do so. You have step by step instructions. I would never have thought to make the coasters with clay! And I find so many baskets, which I have quit buying because of lack of things to use them in, but never thought of hanging them. (The bathroom ones would loke great with hand towels, or washcloths rolled up and stacked.) I will watch all your videos (eventually) and will be making many of the projects for baby and wedding gifts. Thanks for sharing your ideas with us! I'm excited.
