The suitcase is adorable and brought back memories of going to Granny’s house. I purposely would forget my pajamas because she would safety pin one of her gowns to fit me. The suitcase was packed with dolls and doll clothes that she had made for me.

I moved to Portland OR and spent some time every day for about 4 years at the local GW bins going over the picked over bins and 'rescuing' things that I couldn't imagine going into landfill. When I finally bought a condo, I decorated the entire unit with bin finds including most of the smaller furniture (e.g., pictures, chairs, decorative screens, small tables, cabinets, bedside tables and bookcases). All my holiday decorations come from the bins, including a 4' long wire reindeer and Mini lights and wire berry twists to accentuate the form that is my favorite decorative item. I refurbished several Christmas wreathes to make then unique and every time I bring them out, I relive the fun of creating those items. In a culture that values the latest and most up-to-date, creating personal items from castoffs is a special joy.
