The maximum percentage of steel in a slab is generally not explicitly specified in building codes like IS 456:2000. IS 456:2000 doesn't specify a maximum steel percentage but limits the maximum diameter of bars to 1/8th of the slab's thickness. Maximum spacing for main bars is typically 3 times the effective depth or 300 mm, whichever is less.
