It’s so crazy how this video really shows the measure of influence our parents/upbringing has on our personalities. Sheldon has a really happy-go-lucky attitude, and that’s not saying he’s lazy or careless, but it does show that perhaps his parents are more supportive and have a little more trust in him than most traditional Asian parents would. I’ve noticed that Edward is super competitive, disciplined, and a bit more serious than the others and now it’s obvious why he has that mentality. He’s struggled with feelings of incompetence, as a lot of us have, and you can see how much he truly wants to make his mom proud and to be able to provide/repay her for all she’s done. Mike’s comment when he mentioned how his parents commended him on his art despite having poor grades in general classes and how that made him feel that they accepted him...I felt that. Even though we might not hear the words “I love you”, we can see their love and support in the little things they say or do. Such a relatable video for a lot of us in this generation.

You all can see that Sheldon is very young and just graduated from college and did not land a stable job yet, so it is not like he threw away opportunities that were given to him and he did say that he is going to look for a job if the channel does not work out, so his parents are more supportive and giving him a chance and time deadline and if it does not work out, they are going to force him to look for a regular job. Mike just started a job and now all of a sudden quitting, so his parents were slightly more harder on him that he got a job opportunity that was difficult to obtain and now giving it up so soon, but because he is a very recent graduate and very young, they figure he will have a good chance of finding something else if the channel does not work out. Edward, you can tell he is like 5-7 years older than the rest of the gang like close to 30 years old probably even more and probably has had a very great stable job for several years and now that he is quitting like that and being he is at that age, his mother had a reason to freak out the most about giving up a job that was very good paying and working out for such a long time to the point like almost like giving away a house and probably afraid he is not going to be able to get something so stable that easily given his age and that employers may think more weird of him.
@bangnguyen83652 жыл бұрын
@@supertrouper i think theyre all in the same age, in the video where they went to the most racist town in the us, they showed a photo of them in maybe highschool all together, i think the reason why sheldon graduate after those two is because he study engineer and it may takes longer, considering he had 9 internship during his school years

I think it's a bit different for Sheldon's case (other than his parents being more chill) cuz he's fresh out of grad and doesn't actually have a job yet. And it's just a year, so it's easy for his parents to see it as a break and a good time for experiment. But for Mike and Edward, since they qui a "stable" job they already had, it's probably somewhat harder for parents to accept that they're "throwing away" something good for something with so much uncertainty. But anyways, you never know till you try, so I support you all :)

I am 40 from HK and I know exactly what you are pursuing, and I know exactly where your parents are from. Although I am not your parent, but I fully support of your decision. I once had a dream to be a flight attendant and had a good opportunity to do so, but my mum was so so against that because this is NOT what I studied for in university, she always though it is such a waste if I dont do what I studied especially it was a professional job (being a teacher). I remembered I had a huge argument over this, at the end I gave in. I regretted because I know if i want to do it now I am far too old compared to many young ones. It was always my dream to be a flight attendant. Now with respectability looking after my parents and my financial mortgage, I feel like I am now living to live. Not that I dont enjoy being a teacher dont get me wrong, but I wish I had the courage like you all had. Good luck! I know you all will succeed.

Well, she actually said "I need some time to cool off and calm down", so "consider" as in to adjust herself to such a sudden change. And being a Chinese parent, she now has a ton of unsorted options of how she could best support her child in her head --- should she keep urging him to go back to work? Can it even be done? What about another company and same position? Maybe let him do this as a "leap year" but secretly trying to find him a job after? Maybe put the trust in him and double down by getting involved into CantoMando too, for example investment? Maybe she needs to now seriously learn how media works because his son may need help with it one day? How much money do they have in their bank and how long can they support their child? Do they need to take an extra job such that if the child failed they can still support him? TONS of things to think through...

Holy shit this should go on SAT. This is my parents biggest fear and my parents would said this word to word exactly. Full support for you guys hope really admire your courage
@ap51415 жыл бұрын
Annie Chiang I was thinking this too we could totally rally up more support and subscribers from SAT (if they’re not already subscribed lol) and so many people would relate to this
My mom would also react like his. My dad instead would not hahhaha

I cried watching this. I can see where our parents are coming from when they don't support our dreams, but it still hurts to hear it. You guys took this opportunity and I admire you guys so much. I support you guys so much and hope that everything goes well!!

I seriously respect your decisions to follow your hearts even if it's just a chance! It's in your hearts and that is what matters the most. I know you love your families and you respect your parents upbringing and even though you are worried about your parents feelings you know that they truly love you in the end. I am not Chinese and I don't come from a traditional family but I can feel your fear from here! You should be so proud of yourselves! I hope the best for all of your futures and thank you for introducing all of us to Chinese culture and your current and future passions. 💕

Was there an update for this video? It's been almost two years since this decision. I'd love to see a video where they look back on the last two years and see how things worked out. From my point of view it seems like they made a good decision.

This is definitely a really tough decision and you three are so incredibly brave. I'm excited to see what kind of content you guys will make in the future now that you're full time youtubers. It's always so nice to see people pursuing their dreams despite their parents' wishes and as someone who is also a chinese-canadian, I know how hard it is to go against your family's expectations. Wishing you all the best on your new journey!!

I am Indian and can so relate to how Asian parents react to "JOB" topic. Having worked for more than 1.5 decades, I really feel you all so brave to do what your heart says. All the best guys!

Dang. This was a pretty moving video compared to the channel's past content. 0 to 100 got hella real hella quick. Hope everything works out and can't wait to see how CantoMando progresses in the future! There are so many different directions for this channel to develop, super interested to see how their content is going to evolve and if the audience dynamic will change over time as a result. As a subscriber who decided to do their bachelors degree in mainland China instead of their home country, this is a pretty inspiring step to see the creators of CantoMando take. Veering away from societal standards and deviating from the norm is never an easy decision to make, but sometimes your mind will never be truly at ease until you've taken that risk and know for sure that it would (or wouldn't have) worked out through first hand experience. There's honestly no point torturing yourself with "what if's", because things may have turned to shit (or gone spectacularly) no matter which decision you decided to make either way, so best to just try and go hard for whatever it is you decide to do in the end without dwelling too much on alternate choices. Godspeed 🤟
