If all life is considered equal. Does that mean that according to Budhist teachings, murdering people is just as bad as killing animals/consuming meat as food? Most people have commited some of the vices listed, what's the incentive to live the rest of their life with the restrictions? I'm genuinenes curious.

GeoT91 Buddhists believe that each individual life is dependent on one’s karma, which in a sense, means that all life is not equal. Whether a person is born rich or poor, handsome or ugly, intelligent or stupid, are all dependent on his/ her karma derived from past life (in Buddhism, there is past life, present life and future life). Buddhism teaches compassion towards all beings, including animals. Thus, to abstain from killing animals for food is a form of practice of compassion. Due to human beings’ ignorance, they have committed a lot of bad deeds( so called vices) which cause their life to be miserable, such as physical sufferings, mental sufferings ( fear, worries, etc). Buddhism teaches us to be wise too, (other than being compassionate), not to do things which harm others and ourselves; certainly you will say, which human being is so silly as to harm himself. Well, karma will take place.. we can’t escape from our bad karma, it’s a matter of time. Certainly by doing good deeds and watching our mind through practice of meditation, chanting and reading and understanding the Dhamma ( teachings of the Buddha) our life will become peaceful and meaningful.
