The numbers behind the romanization are tones. Hāhā!I recalled when I was young and was still living in Cholon - 5 & 6th ward (closed to Ho Chi Minh City - Saigon) where Chinese who speak Cantonese have been living for hundred of years; the "Nie5" some people pronounced "N" but quite a few with "L".
