On this day 11-29-2023 dear Yam Kim Fai left us 34 years ago. Let us reminisce her greatness in Cantonese opera, her charm, elegance and beauty on stage, on screen and in real life. Yam commanded the stage for more than 4 decades with her rich repertoire performances. I like to share an interesting perspective re Chapter 78 in Yam's autobiography. When Yam arrived in Hong Kong, she requested her FIRST performance to be held at Lee Theatre because she had never been there. IT TURNS OUT Yam had countless stage performances in the prominent Lee Theatre during her later days. Lee Theatre during Yam's era is like Carnegie Hall in New York city today. Yam continued to say Lee Theatre was situated in Happy Valley which she said was considered a rich district in those days. IT TURNS OUT Yam chose her LAST permanent home in Happy Valley, an upper residential district. Amazing Yam - we remember and love you as ever." Eunice Liu, B.C. Canada 11-29-2023

On this day, Nov. 29, 2024, let us take a moment of silence to remember Madam Yam Kim-Fai, the most unique personality of the Cantonese opera stage and screen. 35 years have passed since she died, at age 76, on Nov. 29, 1989, Yam's star remains undimmed. She is able to retain multi-generational recognition to this day. Her definitive style in playing the leading male role beautifully is engrained in our heart and in our mind.
