What's about a transformation Spell?!
@EnchantedRose972 жыл бұрын
As the flames themselves are counted as non-magical, this is a great set-up for pyrotechnics
@Yachera3 жыл бұрын
It’s spooky fire that doesn’t create light by RAW. Makes sense for the only natural warlock fire cantrip.
@Yachera3 жыл бұрын
I realize there is GFB but this is more “spellcaster” and doesn’t need a weapon. Just creating fire like fire bolt or produce flame.
@NobodyDungeons3 жыл бұрын
So, the cool thing about the thorn whip cantrip is that it is a melee spell attack despite having a 30ft range, and because of that it means you can apply things like smites and other melee exclusive abilities to the use of thorn whip with the added benefit of being 30ft away from the target.
@pirounded81923 жыл бұрын
Make sure those melee exclusive abilities don't specify a melee weapon attack, as divine smite and the smite spells do. As thorn whip isn't a melee weapon attack.
@NobodyDungeons3 жыл бұрын
@@pirounded8192 True though at my games I often allow smites to be used with bows and crossbows because why not. I just generally play fast and loose with a lot of the rules in 5e to promote player freedom and creativity provided it can be realistically done and is balanced to a reasonable degree.
@crisrody8523 жыл бұрын
@@NobodyDungeons By RAW, all smite spells and the hexblade invocation require only a Weapon to work, but the Divine Smite feature from Paladins is made to require a melee weapon.

one of my favorite spells in close tunnel combat. Minor illusion of a fire of one on the other side you, can limit front attacks on you! It would be nice if one could expand the area of effect 10x5 or 10x10, to be a cheap version of firewall. Maybe metamagic?

HEHE My favorite and most recent character was a Moon Druid with sentinel. So it was use my movement to get right up in their face, Action cast Create Bonfire to give them the hot foot, Bonus action wild shape into something that can deal a good amount of damage, and then give them a smack if they tried to move out of the fire. The other one was to stand next to the tank that had a huge AC in a 10 to 15 foot hallway and use bonfire to block off one side. That way they would pile up in front of the tank one at a time. They would have to choose to hit the tank or me.
@kcrad15272 жыл бұрын
The most metal idea I saw pulled off with Bonfire was a successful 1v1 that stopped as a Hold Person, then next turn using an action to chain someone up to Restrain them, then Bonfiring them as long as possible until they break the chains with Strength.

So, at my games I remove the dexterity saving throw because if you walk on a fire I don't care how high your dexterity is you are going to get burned.
@crisrody8523 жыл бұрын
Dex save includes things like protecting themselves with a shield or cape and should always be a part of it. Magic is a pretty sensible thing mechanical wise and one can be super over powered by taking advantage of stuff like this.
@guilhermefsouza72452 жыл бұрын
dexterity saving throw is extremely easy to pass in the lower levels but for the balance I dont think it should be removed from this cantrip, but to compensate that the create bonfire should have other benefits, like creating an opportunity attack if the creature you conjurated the bonfire passes the dexterity saving throw at the same time that it is fighting melee with an ally
@demonheart132 жыл бұрын
I feel like the dex save is similar to an actual bonfire igniting. It usually doesn't just WOOSH into existence, your hear the embers taking light and crackling and low flames will lick from the core before jumping up to full force. So dex save means, they saw what was happening and gtfo before it fully hit them. Generally moving to an adjacent square.

I feel like ruling it as non magical fire makes sense, otherwise why would the wood need to be conjured too? I think of it as conjured wood with a little magical pilot light to keep it all ablaze

Will we get more cantrips/spells? Or is this series on a permanent break?
@ziofabri49493 жыл бұрын
This cantrip is one of my favoutite one: you can just use it to make a good night in the forest or for attack your enemies during the fight...but, it has to be with wood pieces inside or it could be just fire the bonfire?🤔
@ronn-ammon89753 жыл бұрын
ZioFabri : I figure it's just fire, that's why it goes out when you stop concentrating on it. Logistically, if you add wood it should continue on it's own for a while without your concentration right?

where is your reference for saying that sage advice says it's flames are "non magical"? The description reads: "You create a bonfire on ground that you can see within range. Until the spell ends, the magic bonfire fills a 5-foot cube."

Chromatic Red Dragonborn for immunity to fire damage.

As a druid, concentration kills this spell for me... wish control flames had damage written in. I always argue clithes target wears and target is the fuel. Not bad, I just don,t pick it up cause Faery fire or ithe Spells are better to concentrate on unless at 11st or second level when you have 2 to 4 spell slots and rely on cantrips and the shove action.. or puck up primal savagery that does a dq0 but it does have range and works with mold earth and control flames.

I know a lot of you like to bring water magic to the ocean but this cantrip would be devastating at sea with water breathing.
@Noface1213 жыл бұрын
I still can't figure out what this spell actually IS. A pile of burning sticks? A tall pile of burning sticks (i.e a bonfire) A cube of pure flames? A cone of pure flames ("bonfire" without the sticks) An orb of fire on the floor? The name just feels wrong. You've drawn it as a tall stack of sticks which just seems weird to me. It's what my brain thinks with "bonfire" too. Also enemies can pass through the space... What's the DEX dodging? If it's a 5ft pile of burning sticks?
