As a former Referee in the OMHA and OHL , I can assure you that the referees aren’t talking to each other about it taking guts to make a call ….lol… Officiating is just like playing, sometimes you’re locked into the zone and call a game to perfection, most days you are very good but miss a couple calls , but don’t call anything you shouldn’t have , and when you’re off , you call a few that you shouldn’t have and you miss a few that you should have caught and you just can’t get into a good rhythm.

There has always been a penalty for Un-sporstmen like conduct for diving or embellishing on a play, the refs just never call it out. Humiliate a guy that is trying to make the ref look stupid a couple times and it will end or at least less of it happening.

People are more "health conscious" now and so the calories in beer turn people off to it. Seltzers (same alcohol volume) are more in vogue now (and a lot of beer companies have switched to producing that instead of beer lol).
