A good, quality ice chest is essential for any outdoor adventure. Whether you're staying at a campground, or you just want come cold beers waiting for you back at the truck, finding a product that can lkeep your ice from melting is pivotal.

Personally I would just put 2 or 3 3 liter bottles or even gallon milk jugs that are frozen in the cooler and shut it overnight. For that size, you might need more 4 but comes out cheaper than using all that ice and dumping out. . We have a deep freeze so we keep those bottles year round ready to pre chill our coolers.

Yeah that's definitely a good option. Ironically though I tend to the the exact reverse where I'll pre-chill it with ice and then once it's pre-chilled I'll put in some frozen gallon milk jugs though. I'll try your way though just to compare.
