In Death Valley National Park, south of Furnace Creek, there is an old canyon road that leads to a deserted miner's camp. A 2 1/2 mile drive up a rough dirt road leads to a small parking area, and from here it is an additional 2 mile hike up the old road through the canyon to the camp.
It's a nice walk up the canyon, with a lot of fascinating rock formations. In some spots the road is easy to spot and in others it is impossible to recognize. And if you stop looking for the road that leads out of the canyon, you may find yourself reaching a dead end.
There is a lot of stuff left behind, including three bunkhouses, a vertical mine shaft, an ore bin, and lots of random artifacts. Basically, stuff you'd expect to see at a mine site.
I was the first person to visit the site after the summer heat, or the first person to sign the log book. But I wasn't alone, as I spotted three Big Horn Sheep walking down to the canyon bottom.
I visited in mid October, and I thought the temperatures were perfect, not too cool and not too warm.
I hope you enjoy watching my hike, and thanks!
