@buno7089 Problem for me is that they won't admit this. They keep giving so much false hope instead explaining what they're actually doing to figure out how to use him. I mean... it feels like it should be fairly obvious in some ways with the way technology has advanced. PETS have become a real thing pretty much. Fans have made it abundantly clear we are happy with a follow up to X8. Mega Man 11 showed there was a lot of positive reception for its direction. It could be improved but it's still a great game in the modern era, and it expounded on lore between Light and Wily. Honestly, fans have made it clear even with our wallets that there is an audience. We don't need a huge AAA title. That's the advantage. Mega Man focuses on great gameplay, design, and music along with story elements. It doesn't need to be a huge risk, so why is it so hard to even consider what MIGHT work or involve the fans again like with Legends 3 instead of always chickening out? Again, Rock is not a huge risk. Lower budget, well established with hundreds of games and fans and history. It's very unlikely to completely flop even if they experiment again, and likely to sell if a sequel to the main games.

@theonewhowrotethis56813 күн бұрын
At least Metroid can sell more than 2m copies. The best selling Mega Man game is still MM11 at 1.9m. You can attribute Metroid's successes to good marketing campaigns as Nintendo actually gives a darn about that franchise again. If Capcom gave Mega Man more marketing, I think the games would do better. The crossovers kinda do help a bit, but having more prominent advertising when a new game is released would definitely help. They won't be mainstream by any means, but I think proper advertising will help a game sell over 2m for a change. They kinda did that with the BN anime series back in the day, but that was WAY more successful in Japan than in the USA.

While that is true, that Mega Man 2 and 3 were rushed and buggy and glitchy, the game play feels a lot smoother than the first one, the visuals and music is far better, the bosses were creative... and back in the day, what sold me on Mega Man 3 to actually start collecting the games in the series (instead of just renting them) was 1. the introduction of Rush (Mega Man's dog), and 2. the introduction of the mysterious "Break Man"/Proto Man robot and 3. elements of actual story starting to develop. It helps that Megaman 2 is not as difficult as the first one since it was made for the NES, not arcade systems. And the weapons aren't too buggy, people will usually have no problems with them once they learn how to use them. The only issues I had was the Metal Blade staying in place if you hold up + down or left + right while pressing B, and the Crash Bomb making the game lag. I turned away from Megaman 3 because the sliding is so finnicky and I couldn't beat any of the bosses for the life of me. I think 11 is the best, but I go back to 2 every once in a while.

To be fair to Inafume, the whole Mighty No.9 project was doomed to fail from the start. The 1st red flag was how he and his team created so many unreal stretch goals, and then as they kept getting more and more money on the kickstarter campaign, they kept adding even more goals, as if they had the time and budget to be able to handle everything. The 2nd red flag had been hiring Inti Creates to create the actual game, where don't get me wrong those devs have managed to create some very good games, such as the Mega Man Zero games, or even the Gunvolt series, but when you try playing all of their games, they mostly all play the same, especially when it comes to their platformers, as the only couple of times that they tried to make something new and more unique, such as their Dragon Marked for Death game, the first year that game had come out, it was just an absolute mess on the Nintendo Switch, there wasn't proper character balancing, the game mechanics were very buggy, the multiplayer netcode was horrible, and mind you that these people made this game after Mighty No.9, so they should have been more experienced when making DMFD, yet it took them about 2-3 years to fix Dragon Marked for Death after it had been released, so that is why I say that Concept should have probably hired someone else, in order to make Mighty No.9, since all the ideas and stuff they had were very good, but it had been executed poorly by Inti Creates, and it baffles my mind how a lot of people talk crap about Inafume, as if he had actually been working on the game development for the game, when he basically left it all to Inti Creates, yet nobody even mentions them in their rants about Mighty No.9... The 3rd red flag was how everyone that was working alongside Inafume was on a different page than him, there were so many conflicts of interest when it came to managing everything for Mighty No.9, that its the reason why they had run out of funds, and why when each staff member had been interviewed and stuff, they all said all sorts of things which did not sound reassuring to the backers that had provided the funds, which is why a lot of them even backed out, and got their refunds through calling their banks and stuff, and somehow things had even gotten worse, when there was a lot of drama due to the fact that the person they selected as a community manager, was someone that had a history of being a hardcore feminist, so the backers got even more worried, and Inafume and his staff did very little to reassure people. The 4th red flag was how even though Mighty No.9 had not been completed, Inafume and his company Concept, they created another kickstarter campaign for Red Ash, which would have been a spiritual successor to the Mega Man Legends series, where for most game companies it is completely normal to have multiple projects in the works, as you don't really want to have a situation like having all your eggs in one basket, but the way they handled Red Ash was just nuts, since they had been rumored to be using Mighty No. 9 funds, even if that had not been the case, it just caused unnecessary fear and panic across the backers, which is why even more of them backed out of the Mighty No.9 campaign, and then Concept decided to double down on their mistake, by creating a playable demo of how Red Ash could potentially play like, but then they used assets from Mighty No.9 and stuff, which just further convinced the backers, and then on top of that, there had been an anime short created for Red Ash, which then created talks of a potential anime for the game, and even if it had been another studio that did that as a favor to Inafume which didn't use Mighty No.9 funds, a lot of people still believed that Concept was using the funds. The 5th red flag is closely related to the 4th, where even though Mighty No.9 had not even come out yet, there was already a short created by another studio, where they showcased how a potential Mighty No.9 children's cartoon could have looked like, and online there had been designs for toys and a bunch of merch, which also convinced people that Inafume and Concept were outsourcing these ideas and using their kickstarter funds to do it, when it had been other companies trying to bank in on Inafume's fame, in order to try and make money off of him and Mighty No.9, but as Inafume basically didn't quiet down those rumors and barely even got involved, that just cost him a lot of funds as backers kept backing out by calling their banks and cancelling. The 6th red flag was just the lack of proper communication through the whole project, where they basically did updates whenever they felt like, and then when they ran out of funds they just basically went on a long hiatus, until Deep Silver became the publisher and came with the necessary money to finish development on the game and finally release it, but after such a long development time, and then such a poor product becoming the end result, that just made the backers even more mad, which is why to this day people still talk negatively about Mighty No.9, and I can't really blame them since I also felt ripped off, as the game just felt like it had a lack of polish and that it was incomplete, and initially even the online game modes didn't even exist, even though the stretch goals for reaching the 4M, were the race modes and even online coop ones, and then when those modes were added a couple of months down, they just had horrible netcode and compatibility, which just made people complain even more, and that is how we just got Inafume's famous words "Its better than nothing" and then the man basically became a meme. I am sure that I missed out on some details and stuff, but this is just what I remember about the whole ordeal, and other companies should really learn about it, so that they can use it as a guide on what not to do in order to create a new game series, and its funny that Capcom of all people, even though they had a good opportunity to turn everything over with Mega Man after Mighty No.9, they just didn't do anything and are still not doing anything, where if it wasn't for the fans for creating fan projects and stuff, then the only relevancy towards Mega Man would be that he is basically a crossover character.

This video overlooks the "political" in-fighting within Capcom between Keiji Inafune and the Capcom board of Directors. Inafune was the PRIMARY reason so many Megaman games got made because he had so much sway in the company and believed in the IP. Inafune gradually was alienating some of the leading members of capcom through these projects and after going all in on a failed (non-megaman) project that cost the company big bucks, he was on thin ice. It was at this moment Inafune used the last of his sway in the company to force start the development of Legends 3, but before the project's development could actually get greenlit by the higher ups he was pushed out and forced to resign. Legends 3 then, wasn't really canceled, but simply never approved to begin with, despite having development time. There is quite a bit of evidence (that I dont have off the top of my head, sorry) to imply that Inafune was so detested by the Capcom board that Megaman has been seeing a lot of neglect BECAUSE of its association to him. (3 Megaman projects were canceled after his resignation) So the real reasons may be more complex than profitability or market underestimation. There may be some ire and other such pressure from above due to interpersonal/social-contract/hierarchy based disruptions during the Inafune years.

Nevermind the dubious quality of the game. Capcom also released as a standalone offline version that removes the one thing everyone hated, -the awful gacha mechanics- PVP. So in a rare case, they managed to preserve a game that would have otherwise suffered the same fate as Xover and Legend of Network/Phantom of Network. Other than that, nice video! And don't get me started on the Battle Network fans when you say you like Star Force more than Battle Network, you will disappeared the next day. Anyway its nice seeing someone talk about MegaMan.

At least when Konami kills an IP they make sure to ignore it for the rest of time instead of dragging it out every now and then to get people's hopes up. Capcom most likely has zero intention of making a new Mega Man anything beyond ports of old games but they always put him front and center on things such as Collabs, Merch and even NFTs.

Actually, Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls was released on the Apple Arcade in 2018. It does continue the original timeline, it brings in several of the classic Castlevania characters from over the years... but it is episodic, it has "gacha" elements making it kind of a money pit, and it is only available on the Apple Arcade meaning that people who use Android, Google, Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, or any other devices can't access it and play it unless they also have an Apple device. Castlevania: Harmony of Despair also released in 2010 however, was released on XBox 360, XBox One, and PlayStation 3. While it didn't have any story, really, it did have several different playable characters, and it actually was pretty challenging and fun once I got used to it... even though it did have extra downloadable content that had to be purchased separately in order to really get the full experience and all character abilities. But yeah, both Capcom and Konami did Inafune and Igarashi dirty.
@theonewhowrotethis56813 күн бұрын
Well, it does look like Konami is reviving various franchises as they're pushing for Metal Gear (the Delta remake and the recent collections), Silent Hill (2 Remake and the various new titles that they outsourced), and Castlevania (mostly collections, the Netflix shows, and crossovers, but we did get Haunted Castle Revisited). Wished they made more NEW titles, but at least Konami is somewhat trying again as they burned a bunch of bridges back in the day. Capcom really needs to make a new Mega Man game. I really do appreciate the Legacy Collections (and hope that the rest of the titles get collections) since they make classics available on modern platforms, but a new Mega Man game would be nice. Even if it's just a double A title, I'd love to see a new game appear before the end of time.

5:14 Appreciate you saying that part. As a Mega Man fan since practically the beginning, I've grown so sick of Capcom's excuses and/or silence. Mega Man 11 might not have been the greatest Classic series game of all time, but it was pretty solid, and I'm sure I'm not the only fan out there that would've supported sequels continuing onward in that style. Would I like another 8-bit NES-era style game or a revival of the SNES-style of early Mega Man X era? Sure, I'd dig that too. Would I also love it if Capcom came out with something brand new, like rolling the dice on making a Mega Man or Mega Man X game in the style of something like Metroid Prime? Hell yeah, I would. We are fortunate to have brilliantly made fan-made games like Mega Man Unlimited and other games clearly inspired by the Blue Bomber like Gravity Circuit to fill the void Capcom has created by neglecting all of the incarnations of Mega Man for so many years. Sure, Mega Man games might not sell as well as Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, or Resident Evil, but there's no way Mega Man games cost as much as any of those series do to make.
@bardinblue98303 күн бұрын
Heck, on that note, I would have loved to see more of the Mega Man games developed in the SNES Mega Man 7 style. It also irritated me that after Mega Man 8, "Rockman & Forte" (Mega Man & Bass) got released on the Super Famicom with Mega Man 8 style graphics, and it did not get a release over here in the States until it was ported to the Game Boy Advance! It also irritated me that we didn't get Mega Man Battle & Chase here in the States because SONY felt there were too many racing games on the PlayStation already. I would have bought it back then!!!! But I am glad that a version of Battle & Chase, though incomplete, did get a release on the PlayStation 2 with the Mega Man X Collection.
@mysterwhymedia3 күн бұрын
@@bardinblue9830 Yeah...agreed with you on the Mega Man 7 art style. I don't get why they abandoned that so quickly. I didn't even know there was a Mega Man-themed kart racer! I did get a copy of Mega Man Soccer once upon a time, though, which is funny because I don't follow soccer at all, and I thought it was more fun than what I expected it to be. I imagine it didn't sell as well as whatever Capcom wanted at the time because if it did, they probably would've gone on to make Mega Man-themed sports games of all varieties. For my money MegaMan Legends doesn't get the respect it deserves. For a game that released BEFORE Ocarina of Time and Metal Gear, It's arguably aged better than them in every way but the controls. It really should be more prominent in the discussion around those games

But Megaman got essentially nothing, even amongst other Capcom series that need revivals like Dino Crisis and Dead Rising, Megaman NEEDS to be revived, it cannot be cameos and crossovers forever, you can't run an IP like that, it never ends well in the long run

With how the series has evolved over time, especially with Battle Network and then Star Force (don't think there was a game like them before them, hasn't been that many since), I'd be curious to see what another new next step for the franchise could look like
@bardinblue98303 күн бұрын
The thing that lost me with Battle Network was that after BN2, the sequels of BN3 and onward were divided into two separate cartridges to buy *per sequel* - and then at least THREE for Star Force!! It didn't seem to me that the additional cartridges really did anything to improve game quality. Just different color pallets, different bosses, minor differences in abilities, battle chips, and story... To me, the extra cartridges per sequel just seemed like they'd be a waste of money.
@theonewhowrotethis56813 күн бұрын
@@bardinblue9830 Then you'd only need to purchase one version of each game. The games (barring BN4) were still stellar, so you could just get one version for each #'d entry and play from there. There are also ROM Hacks of some of the games that combine the versions together into a single game. Mega Man Star Force DX comes to mind for that, and there was a mod for BN6 Falzar that added the Gregar bosses.

It's funny people say Megaman games are hard....compared what else existed on the market at the time...not really. I've never considered them to be that difficult besides a few specific games like MM 7 and 9 of the original series.They were a medium difficulty at worst. Given the passwords, infinite continues, and E tanks, you could overcome if you wanted it bad enough. No boss in any game going kill you if you burn thru 9 E tanks on them. If you can't beat them with that much health...I don't know what to say. This was always manageable and it was only as hard as you let be given you could pick different orders and exploit the weaknesses to knock enemies to do size.
@theonewhowrotethis56813 күн бұрын
I agree that Mega Man games aren't the most difficult. However, they also don't hold your hand (besides the super easy difficulties added to later collections). The Zero titles are harder, but they give you stuff like Cyber Elves to make it easier for you (even though I avoid them to get S-Ranks for EX Skills).

The Legends games were awesome. We have no idea how 3 would've sold because they canceled it. They said they'd make the game based on how well the beta demo would've sold, had millions of fans involved in the fan-works for it, and then canceled the beta demo so no one even got to contribute to whether or not the final thing would even come out. It's less that the game wouldn't have sold and more that Capcom just randomly stopped it out of nowhere leaving fans with a slap in the face.

There were also some external factors that led to the demo not being released. Originally the Legends 3 demo was supposed to be released alongside the launch of the 3DS eshop but the launch was delayed because of the 3DS's lackluster sales apparently, meaning the demo couldn’t be released on schedule. Keep in mind that if all that hadn’t happened the Mega Man Legends 3 demo would’ve been the ONLY purchasable game on the eshop for a good while, It would most likely have sold pretty well as there wouldn’t have been much else to buy yet. But I guess we'll never know now.

You really should have brought up Mega Man 8’s high production value and how people shat on it for feeling “childish”, which is part of the reason 9 and 10 took it’s detrimental direction it ultimately did.
