I think Mega Man X, Zero, and ZX are more like sequel series than spinoffs, but regardless they haven't seen any new entries for even longer than the classic series at this point. I hope we see something new in the X and ZX series someday since their last games both ended with cliffhangers!

I think what Capcom should do is ask JKB games (creator of the Mega Man X Corrupted fan game) to develop his Mega Man game for the company. If you take a look at the amount of popularity the fan game is making, then you would further understand this. Yes, I’ve heard that there are some mishaps that could occur like sharing of ideas and platform transferring but if capcom just lets JKB games handle the main project it should be fine. Also, for the platform transfer, maybe capcom can help with that so everyone can play the game on different consoles. One more thing I want to mention about this is the possibility of a new mega man timeline. Because Corrupted takes place after MMX5 I believe, there could be potential for a new timeline, one that may fix the many problems that the sequels had. What do you guys think about this? Should it be brought to capcom’s attention?

I see the franchise more as a series of new ideas that brings something unique every generation. I want to see a new Mega Man that adapts to the culture and gameplay of the modern age: an open-world sandbox hub, with dedicated sections for fighting Robot Masters, all evolving the gameplay and world of the games. I have my own ideas for what this game would look like, even though Capcom will likely never listen to me or even notice me. Also, Legends 3 + Legacy Collection, hopefully on the Switch, and maybe Star Force LC too, so I can have basically the entire franchise on one system.

The Mega Man formula is so simple you'd think they'd be pumping these games out nonstop. 8 levels with 8 bosses with 8 unique weapons that each have pros and cons against each other and also work during gameplay through the levels to find secret items and secret areas. Then you have a handful of Wily stages at the end and a boss rush before the final boss fight against Dr. Wily in some kind of giant ship or a giant robot. All it needs is a generic plot to stop Dr. Wily again and fight 8 new robot masters. Again this is the most simple formula but hey so is Mario.

There's a sixth game. It was also terrible. If they go back to the standard RPG roots with Ryu, Nina, etc..., then it would probably do well, but they keeps trying to change things up in all the wrong ways. Heck, BoF V is even called "Dragon Quarter," but there are no real dragon forms. It's basically just the Warrior Dragon form, which is cool and all, but so are the others. For me, the best one is still BoF III. The dragon abilities and forms you get is heavily influenced by which genes you choose to splice together, and it's awesome. I know there's more to the games than just the dragon aspect, but that is the major selling point, and they keep trying to shove it aside.

As a partial aside from my other comment, Capcom needs to innovate, and not just do another Classic Mega Man. Here are some ideas that I'd spend money on. First of all, Mega Man (X) Maker needs to happen. Just like Mario Maker, but with Jump-and-Shoot-man. Most importantly, the ability to upload and download stages is crucial. I can see this have long term success and a healthy userbase, not to mention a goldmine of content to come out of it. They should do a new side-series like Persona. They've already dipped their toes into this gameplay style somewhat with Mega Max X Command Mission, so it wouldn't be totally new. The issue is using X for a game like that, instead of something like Battle Network. They could also make a Zero game in the same vein as Death's Door: isometric top-down hack and slasher with some lighter Metroidvania progression and exploration. @Kleist_Polaris mentioned an open-world Legends game, which sounds awesome. There's a lot that can be done, but I don't think they should do another standalone sidescroller.

Man this might be controversial, but Classic Mega Man is the worst iteration of the character in my opinion. X is a more refined, advanced version of those games. Battle Network has a more unique gameplay loop. Legends is an interesting and more importantly working translation of the series to 3D. Classic Mega Man doesn't have much appeal for younger audiences because its art style is forever stuck in this low budget 80s aesthetic, the character has no cool factor, and the series hasn't innovated in nearly 40 years. It sells because 35-50 year olds with disposable income keep buying these repetitive nostalgia cash grabs. The entire franchise needs new blood and to stray from what it has done before where gameplay is concerned. The idea of another game in the Classic series is awfully boring to me.
@ridgenyan-botxv3674 ай бұрын
While I do agree that every other series past Classic is an overall improvement. (Gameplay variety, story, aesthetics, etc.) I feel like you're not giving nearly enough credit to Classic. It's simple, yes, but the core ideas behind the games are incredibly strong. Challenging action games with large amounts of freedom in how you tackle the obstacles before you. It is an incredible base to iterate on, and, even if the other series are more complex in how they develop the core ideas, the Classic series is still very fun. The setting too, while not quite to my taste, is still very charming and easily likable. It really wouldn't hurt to have a new game every now and then. It's been nearly six years since MM11. I do wonder what a brand new series could look like, though. The core is so flexible, you could easily expand into a variety of genres and styles.
@Kleist_Polaris4 ай бұрын
Finally someone else said it, it doesn't help that the gameplay and story or classic can't evolve in a meaningful way since it's stuck as a monster of the week story. With new iterations they show they can play to other genres strengths, such as legends (would have been perfect for an open world type back in the height of it)

@@ridgenyan-botxv367 I apologize in advance if this bloats the scope of what we're talking about too much, but I by no means think the Classic series, at its core, is bad. The setting and aesthetic have a charm to them, sure, but the charm does nothing to make the franchise either stand out nor appear modern. The bigger issue is that I would very much like Mega Man to succeed. Going back to the well is incredibly important for deciding what your next move is, *so long as your next move is getting stuck at the bottom of the well.* Their original target audience has grown, and they are doing nothing to appeal to a new audience with what they're doing. Without this, the series is stagnant; you only end up with people who already have their minds made up when it comes to whether or not to invest in more Classic MM. Kids and teens also consume content and games in ways that are completely incompatible with the way the series is being released and presented at this point as well. New releases are far too sparse to maintain interest. The art style frankly has no pizazz when compared to other modern anime media. Classic Mega Man as a character isn't cool; his VAs sound like children, he has no real personality aside from dishing out justice, and he looks like a baby wearing a plastic suit. There isn't enough here to tentpole a grassroots reach to and from fans (ie. passionate and popular content creators, merchandise broader audiences actually want, etc.), which seems to be crucial for the success and cultural relevancy of game franchises nowadays.
@achtunger55284 ай бұрын
Absolutely agree. The classic series just seems primitive in comparison to the later ones. As much as some nostalgia-blinded people hate to hear this, it would be better to actually try to innovate a technologically stagnant game. The later series still have potential. I think that Legends 3 could work out really well, since 2D games nowadays are extremely niche and are usually just nostalgia bait. Having a 3D game could bring in a lot of people. Hell, I got introduced to the franchise from Legends, and later trying out the X series actually made me appreciate 2D games as well. X9 could also work out. I really wish it would at least try adding some "grounded 3D" gameplay kind of like Ratchet and Clank to some stages, while also having more traditional 2D stages as well. Also, why hasn't Sigma retired yet?
