You commented on the fact that you did not understand the high school girls you saw had their hair cropped, and that you will never agree on that issue. I understand you because your society has been "de-culturalized" as a result of cross-cultural pollination. The real reasons why the students, both boys and girls, cut their hair short are as follows: 1. About 90% of high school students are boarders, thus live in the school for 3 months at a time. There are no hair salons in these schools, nor are they desirable, because plaiting hair takes several hours and would be detrimental to their studies. 2. Avoids unwarranted competition. Plaiting hair traditionally had been reserved for adults, due to possible damage to their tender hair and also financial considerations. Again, in the motherland, our hairs have no "stigma" so there is no hurry to straighten them. It may interest you to know that traditionally, "Rasta" hair plaiting were done strictly for religious purposes.
