Fresh bait ,by far is best, but frozen is next best, if you cant get fresh,,,also if you get frozen, get it from a local bait shop,,,,as if you get it from the supermarket,,frozen,,,,its usually from some foreign country, and months old,,,,,fresh from a supermarket ain't bad,if you can get it,,,,,bait beats Everything!!!!hope this helps.

Found this video after my second trip to the Canal in which I tried bait fishing. I made sure I wasn’t near anybody. Casted out and felt it bounce. I did get concerned about it getting stuck in seaweed and retrieved each time. Thank you for this informative video. I am going to use these tips on my next trip.

Checking out this video now. I understand you start with 50 lb mono, then switch to 40 lb braid. When you get to the leader portion, are you tying ~3 foot 30 lb mono straight to the braid, then to a swivel (weight slider before the swivel) with another ~3 foot piece of mono leader with the hook? Or are there 2 swivels in this setup?

50 lb mono, for backing, 40 lb,(I use power pro),as the main braid line,,,good stuff,,,then 3 or 4 foot, 30 lb mono leader, tied with an Alberto knot,,,,so it slips right thru the guides,,,,(no more busted guides, due to a clunky swivel),,,that's the main fishing line setup,,,,then the actual, bottom rig, now, is,,,,slip a sinker slider rig, with your weight, on the main line,,,,then,tie a brass swivel, to a 10/0, circle, with 50 lb line,,,,I use snell knot on hook, and fisherman's knot, to swivel,and main line,,,,that's the setup, for canal baitfishing,,,now the 30 lb leader,,,IS LESS, than the main line,,,so that, if you get snagged, the 3 foot leader will break,(which is 30 lb test),before the main line,(which is 40 lb test),,saving the 20 dollar, for 130 yard, braid,,,,works every time too,,,cool setup, for bait,,,and ya MUST, use circles, for bait, now,,,,and if blues are in,,,just use wire leader, of course,,,,,😎

If you use a swivel, from the main line, to the rig,,most guys do,,,,but it jams, in the top eye, EVERY TIME, and eventually, you'll bust the ceramic, eye,,,its super worth it, to learn the Alberto knot,,,slips, thru the eye, like buttah,,,you can tie it, easily, in the dark, and, once you learn it,,you'll ALWAYS, use it,,,to attach braid, to mono leader,,and I can honestly say,,when it's tied properly,,,ive NEVER ONCE, had it fail,,,,they claim its about 94%,,,which is impressive,,I use 4 knots, improved fisherman, hook snell, trilene,,,and alberto,,,these cover 99 %, salt or fresh,,,,,,tight lines,,😎

You went from showing us how you bait the hook with this circle hook, too the end of the video? You can use treble hooks if you’re using lures but not for bait?

I use to like fishing bell road when I lived in mass, I grew up in Middleboro, live in nh now and miss fishing the canal, the question I have is I’ve always fished with Shimano bait runners 6500s , do the bait runners still work with those circle hooks? Love your channel hope to see you down the canal someday

Absolutely,,,I have 2 penn baitrunner,,, but I dont use the bait runner feature,,,with circles,,,,you want them to swallow the bait,,,then swim away,,,a d the bait will come back out, and the circle will catch the side of the mouth,,,,no need for the bait runner feature,,,,just adjust your drag,,,so you can just pull line off,,,then cast out,,,,,,thanks for watchin,,,see you down there!!,,,,😎

No,,,not a stupid question,,,,during the summer season, THE army Corp of engineers, has Porta potties, about every quarter mile, or so,,,and the major recreation areas, such as bourne, and Sagamore, rec areas and others,,have them year round,,,also to be totally honest,,,its a ton of woods, all along the canal, and easy to slip into,,,tho I'm im not reccomnding it,,,lol,,,but if ya gotta,,,ya gotta,,,,,lol,,,also, bear in mind, the canal, is not just for fishing, tho its probably the best on the east coast,,,but people jog, bicicle, picnic, and walk,,its ageorgeos scenic area, that is truly stunning,,,youll NEVER tire of the beauty, of the ocean, wildlife, yachts, and ships,,,,and the cape cod charm!!!,,no really,,you CANT wear it out,,,,youll see,,,thanks for watching!😎!😎

What do you know about a rule or law about putting bass on a rope or stringer that you caught?Canal bait and tackle told me that was breaking some law when I mentioned I saw acouple guys at the fishing pier with bass on ropes.Told me you can get in a lot of trouble doing that ?
