These days you can’t even enjoy a drive along the full length of Tafelberg Rd. When it needed to be repaired for safety, the government just closed off half the road rather than do what our taxes pay them to do. For several years now it’s in that state, because I guess they don’t see the worth of beauty spots. Luckily I’m old enough to remember riding my motorbike along the full length under the moon and stars.

Under South African apartheid Africans had self determination and African tribal lands with self rule and they had much more rights than Palestinians in Israel enjoy. Also the real native people of South Africa are the “coloured people” not the black Africans and the coloured people were a minority group even smaller than the white minority and the South African government protected their rights, now after apartheid coloured people have little representation

I'm not even South African but to hear the ignorant (or perhaps arrogant)statements saying how clean it was is rather disturbing. At what cost was that image kept? People were killed and forcefully kicked off their lands for the racist govt to do with the land as they saw fit. That was the case in District Six where I live. In Johannesburg, graves of blacks were dug up and thrown away like rubbish for a golf course for white people to be built.Let's not be so insensitive to the pain that majority went through for a handful to live in luxury.

@@ngalahansel6066 It was only in the Sixties that trouble started in South Africa when we left the Commonwealth and became a Republic. If we didn't our Country wouldn't have progressed to the point of being a Super Power. All peoples regardless of Race progressed under Apartheid, bar none. Look at what happen to all African States that were abandoned by Whitehall, they all became failed states. There isn't one that maintained the standards of that under White management. It depends. The old regime had its flaws and it had its good points. Institutional organization, full employment, excellent schools, prospects for financial growth for everyone, a consumer society, for everyone too... even if not equally, but much, much better than any other country on that continent... to the point that migrations came from the communist ''paradises'' of Zimbabwe, Moçambique to try their luck in the land of the ''segregationists'', well, it was not for nothing, something worked and well. Finally, however, there was a downside... That was so fundamental, that it left that regime unsustainable... pointing out 2 things... the attack on the individual liberties of blacks, such as the right to free property and also being able to negotiate their land/vehicles/real estate outside the banstustans... it was a example of this... another was the police state, which was necessary due to numerous laws and regulations to guarantee separation... this proved to be not only unfair, of course, but also very expensive and wasteful over time... and yes, it negatively impacted economic development... In the end, the lesson is that certainly, the ANC does not represent the answer to overcome the mistakes of the NP and its apartheid... South Africa deserves to be better and decently conducted... on the steering wheel.
