Just think about where you live or if you have ever moved, you don't need a permit unless you are moving countries. Infact you would need more than a permit to move countries.

I'm a little shocked that all of you seem to not understand that nestle is part of the problem world wide. They move into a country, build plants, pumping huge amounts of free ground water from the aquifers massively lower the levels and then sell the stolen water to the people that can least afford this kind of expense. I remember a long while ago getting harassed by city enforcement for washing my car during the day. Thing is that I was using old bath water that would have just gone down the drain anyhow had I not saved it. They could not fathom why that shouldnt be an issue. It was quite literally waste water that was headed back into the sewer but instead I used it to not only clean my car but to water the grass as I parked on the grass and used non harmful safe cleaning products. I was quite proud of myself until they showed up. They told me I should use the hose water and just wait 45 mins until the water restriction hours were up!!

In India, there are water trains during drought. Tankers carry water from different places and fill the temporary storage tanks near the railways, then municipality supplies those water through temporary pipelines.

I’ve got a question: why don’t costal areas use seawater just for the toilets? I mean, that would at least allow more clean water for drinking and bathing and cooking. Same goes for California.

Old comment, but in some places they do. Catalina Island, off the coast of Los Angeles, uses seawater for its toilets. It's very difficult though, because seawater is corrosive to pipes.

I cannot fathom how a COASTAL city can possibly run out of water when they have what amounts to an infinite supply readily available. How to make a personal desalinization still is available on the internet. Just set it up, and you can have your own water supply with a bit of work and sunshine.

Composting toilets, using grey water for the garden, toilets etc...water storage from rain, rationing and following Israel’s lead and building desalination plants. They started late but hopefully if they keep working at it they will have success. Other parts of the world should be doing the same. We have had a few dry summers where I live in Canada over my life, but nothing like this.

Hong Kong apparently uses *sea-water* for flushing the toilets there. I think that's a really good, practical move as part of an overall package to save fresh water. Ok, there'd be a cost for separate saltwater piping but for cities near the sea the cost might be bearable. Domestic rainwater tanks too (for when it *does* eventually rain again) could be useful. There are some great examples of "rainwater harvesting" in India.

The supposedly white and smart DA have had a decade to prepare for climate change/long term draugths and simply didn't do it. Incredible story. Water is essential for life, how quickly it ceases without it. It takes water to grow food. The conservation is laudable, but in the end, it must rain, or another solution. I think desalinization can work, I believe Saudi Arabia has constructed these.

Cold Steam the efficient way to use the sun geothermal composting rocket stoves any heat source to produce electricity and or distilled water explained from basic concept to employment. Water boils in a vacuum at 75 F or 24 C Two open containers one full of water the other empty connect them at the bottom and water will reach an equilibrium 50 50. If one is sealed except for the connection the other will remain empty because of the vacuum created in the sealed container. Gravity will overcome this vacuum if the containers are taller than 34 feet. If the tanks are 40 feet tall the tanks will reach an equilibrium of water levels at 34 feet leaving six feet of hard vacuum in the sealed tank. This makes a vacuum pump set we need two of them if we were going to distill water as the cold side open tank is used to collect the distilled water from it as the continuous input of water needs to go somewhere. Each sealed tank has four valves three at the top two of those on opposite sides (B&C) one at the very top (D) one at the bottom on the side (A), water-based vacuum pump operations are, Close bottom tank valve A and top tank valve C. Open top tank valve D. Fill sealed tank through top side valve B. Close valve B and D when full. Open bottom valve A. This primes the system to let the warm water in that will vaporize and run through the system when you partially reopen valve B (to control flow rate) and open valve C to its fullest. For only power generation need one pump set and one vacuum tank so we can have a Hot side and a Cold side one to boil the water and one to have the low pressure/vacuum to draw the steam in through the turbine then the cooling coils then to the tank. At the bottom of the cold side, tank is a return pipe with the one way valve to the heat source the one-way valve prevents expansion back to the cold side and as the hot side vacuum chamber is the only outlet for the expanding water and it is drawn by the vacuum the cycle proceeds. You can combine the two and get power generation and distilled water keeping the return line from the power generation system will let you switch if you don't need distilled water on a continuous basis in large quantities. I am going to make one feel free to make one as well it is open source.

It is possible to use seawater for non-potable uses. Around 85% of Hong Kong's homes use seawater for the flushing system, and they mange it fine. So there are ways of treating seawater. Even reusing it again.

If you can keep that separate from drinking water because sad as this is many times the rising sea levels in different areas of the world have drinking ground water contaminated with sea water. They can't water their crops or use it for bathing let alone drinking. This salt water causes clothing to be sticky. I guess if you can get over the discomfort of this sensation on your body and hair.

I do wonder the difference in water from the tap and water at the filling station? I know there are better controls on the filling station water but it is still using water. I wonder have the industrial sectors been limited to 50 ltr a day as well? I really think that they are confusing using someone elses water as saving water.. A gallon of drinking water is the same no matter if the salon customer got it from home, the store or your salon tap. That gallon is no long in the pipes so it has been used no bloody matter where it comes from unless it is well water or reused reclaimed water. The water sprayers can help and water saving fixtures etc but a gallon is a gallon is a gallon of potable water so long as it comes from the area

OK so answer me this... where is all of the waste water going? Here in the US cities have waste treatment plants that clean the used water and return it back to a reservoir. They are on the coast yet never bothered to build desalination plants. Israel lives off of this method of getting fresh water.

When i lived on a sailboat learned to shower using 1/2 gallon of water. I'd bet money they do that. I basically on average used 9 liters a day but i didn't have a fresh water using flush toilet. Those Australian's should use composting toilets allowing for that water to go to a garden.

Excellent! Even though my city of Houston, Texas has plenty of water for now (sometimes too much, as we are still recovering from Hurricane Harvey), I am proud when I save it. I can thoroughly water 19 potted plants with 5 gallons (19 liters) of water by simply placing each one in a bucket of water, letting it drain into the bucket, and then moving on to the next plant.

It my take several months for it to get there, but if they time there order so say they get several cases of water a month, then they won’t run out of water. I save our water for the future kids in this world. Weve always gone the toilet after at least 5 to 10 times a day before we flush. The sink and dishwasher water go out in our yard. We were a family of 5 and just had a septic tank. It laster 15 years before we had it cleaned out. The guy couldnt believe it. The septic company keeps sending us reminders to have it done. Lol. We wash once a month because we wear our clothes more than once. Take spit baths, not real spit for those who never heard the term. We take a shower once a week if needed. We have a lake in our back yard. No shortage just wish everyone would do it. Take care of it. Very precious

ummmm ... I'm not up on de-salinization of salt water into fresh and other methods water systems use. I have heard that de-salinization is quite expensive. Surely, it would seem to me, the viability of such a plant is being discussed.

The water isn't really drinkable anymore because of all the chemicals they now mix in it to try and ration water supplies, it does depend on the person but I've had to go to the hospital and be put on a drip twice because of poisoning from the water.

Just watched .India people have 8 Litres of water per week per person from delivery truck. arrived once a week Take them all day walk get that water and return home !! Awful !.

This reminds me of Adonis. The greek mayor that started feeding the starved pigeons in his city, so that they didnt have to die of starvation. A record breaking number of pigeons died next year, when there were twice as much starving pigeons then last year. The african people needs to learn by themself, how to take care of their people. Other countries "helping" them all the time just adds to their suffering.

well in wales that is one thing we have a lot of is water. it rains all the time out of summer.
