One of countless instances in musical development where limitation triggered innovation: The reasoning behind such a technique of writing for two parts, namely "parallel and oblique organum", was to avoid the unacceptably dissonant interval of tritone when writing parallel organum. Notice how a tritone would occur in this composition, if parallel fourths were to begin one instance before when they originally start (note number 4, the "do" syllable). That was what led them to fix the organum part below the principal part (the counterpoint rather than cantus firmus), to the same note as the melody begins, right until when the danger of tritone ends.

the lower staff is reproducing after the upper, so only two voices
