This is the meaning of journalism. As a historian I would go to these photos and this type of commentary on these events to verify the events written about in a book or formal article in a peer-reviewed journal. To realize that an unfolding event put all journalists and photo-journalists at risk of being killed makes it all the more extraordinary that we get to see their work. The words "Thank you" really aren't a full expression of how much admiration I feel for what you and so many others like you have done while doing your jobs.

While I don't condone violence, especially when aimed towards a mostly elderly group, I hope lawmakers and politicians now understand how bad things can get when you ignore blatant warning signs. Warnings like, perhaps, the president is not well? That was ignored for four years and the common man suffered, with no punishment for the president. Until now, when they felt their own fragile mortality in jeopardy. Now, he suddenly deserves punishment. This is a lesson I hope a lot of people take to heart-if you stand around and let a bully run wild, eventually, he'll come for you too. My sympathy is running pretty low for these people. This year the American people have experienced endless protests without change, endless displays of police brutality durring those protests, and people being thrown onto the streets durring a pandemic without a way to get their jobs back. It finally met them at their doorstep, at their place of buisness, and finally into their every day life. I hate that this happened, I hate that these people did what they did, and I hate that we aren't out of the woods yet with these toxic ideologies based in lies, but now that they have finally felt the heat the whole country has been feeling I hope they remember. I hope they get their act together. I hope they see now what this country has become under their leadership, and I hope that they get out of the way and let people take their seats and fix their mistakes because they obviously aren't capable.

This congressional approval rating is in the single digits because congress refuses to reach consensus on anything. 6 months after the first stimulus package they might have well just been golfing or sleeping all day because they would have got just as much done. 2. From a policy stand point they are absolutely the ones to be held responsible. Namely Mitch Mconnel and Nancy Palocy. It is their job to bring their respective parties and constituents' values to the table when negotiating on a bill and to vote in their favor. So why did a majority of Republicans vote against legalizing Marijuana, passing common sense gun control, and helping Americans in need durring the coronavirus when the majority of their constituents want them to vote them in? Hell they couldn't even get a healthcare bill done with the house and executive branch. Democrats are by no means any better, they just didn't do it this time, but those are by far the most glaring examples that come to mind. 3. I'm not suggesting they get driven out of congress by an angry mob. I'm saying that I hope we vote them out when the next election comes. They, in my opinion, have shown that they will not vote in the best interests of the people. The majority don't know what its like to live off of minimum wage, how can they understand the plight of the most affected Americans in 2020? Besides, how the hell could I vote out any of the key players i.e. Mitch and Nancy if they aren't on my ballot? Let me dream damn it lol

You think you are just going in for a routine day at work and it devolves into you wondering if you will live through the day. I think the only good thing is that most of the rioters didn’t have a plan and most weren’t armed with guns. Had this been well orchestrated it could have been so much worse. Democracy is fragile. It falls when we become complacent and allow people to not feel the consequences to their words and actions. We all need to be thankful for the freedoms we enjoy and not take them for granted. Yes, but the ? 45,000 that came too close to the Capitol (closer than the permit for the Trump rally allowed) made it impossible for the woefully underprepared Capitol / DC police to contain the 1000. The police leadership let rank and file down, and some of their collegues colluded - and regular polce found themselves in a combat situation. For hours because when the inept police leaders realized they needed help the Trump admin intentionally ignored the calls (Gov. (R) Logan of Maryland had to wait 90 minutes after top Democrats (Steny Hoyer also from MD and Chuck Schumer chimed in) had called for his help before someone of the Trump admin would authorize deploying the state National guard across state borders. I guess the gov. of Virginia also was unable to "reach" the Secretary of Defense or the deputy. Republican lawmakers or their staff did tours for "visitors" on Jan 5th, those had been stopped since spring 2020 and it drew attention on Jan 5th already. I mean maybe it was harmless and they were inviting friends before leaving the White House ignoring the pandemic rules - but it was very unusual. Some of the rioters knew well how to navigate the buidling (one Rep said even people working there can get lost in the Capitol, it is large and complex), some rioters found unmarked offices, some found the panic buttons installed in offices - women of color that had become a target for Trump before (that would indicate collusion of police or maintainance). 45,000 - or whatever (National _Park_ Service ?)

The only reason LJB decided to pass it was he was desperate to get reelected and he needed the black vote. He was one of the biggest racist ever. He even made the comment. How does one of the supposed most secure building get breach by street thugs? If it were that easy why didn’t the 9/11 terrorist just do the same instead of flying planes into buildings? An angry mob intruding on public property should always be dealt with as the criminal offense that it is. Destruction of public property and theft, where it occurs, are offenses in themselves. Aside from that, common citizens lined up and walking through the capitol’s doors, holding flags, (by far, the great majority), and taking selfies next to statues is not an “insurrection” no matter how effective that moniker may be in advancing Democrat objectives. Democrats have consistently brushed violent upheaval and destruction under the rug when it served their ideology.
