What about placing some storage bins near the ceiling on the route back to your base? That way you can empty out some stuff. Continue farther forward and then at night you could do the shifting everything to the base off camera?

This might be a spoiler but after you get those items you need a whole lot more for the next step, like 700 forged steel for instance. Also the lights on the deck give headlights. The ones that are interior lights that are on the ground like runway markers.
