I am tired of hearing from the nursing students from different colleges on their FB, reddit pages or forums etc that “Nursing is not about money” what the heck!! People are already trained to think this way and they will be sheeps forever. They think they know better! Nursing is a career not a voluntary job! I have bills to pay and family to take care of and pay off my student loans. On top of that deal with the staff stress and patient stress. I would work happily if i get paid more or otherwise i can work at a different place and not go through this crap! Sometimes people are their own enemy.

You're SO very accurate here! As a contracted ICU nurse, I thank you for always being an advocate & sharing your guidance. The idea of a "cap on nurse pay" is one that should not even be in existence. We will have to refuse what has been the horrible system for so many years, we deserve nothing less.

What companies do you contract through? I’m a med Surg nurse trying to contract myself but from what I’m hearing.. you have to be an NP most of the time
@Rogue_RN2 жыл бұрын
@AMarie1209 I'm an ICU RN, I'm not an NP but have my critical care certification through AACN. Most travel nurses are RNs and depending on location, there are contracs for ICU, Med/Surg., Tele, and ER. I'm in San Antonio, TX and have had assignments through Trusted Health & Aya. To contract yourself independently without an agency however is something im not experienced with. Trusted has been amazing. Aya is hit or miss with high pay. Many of my fellow travelers are with Accountable & I've heard good things. If you want crisis assignments, there is Krucial or Angel staffing but those are different from the normal 13 week contracts we take with normal travel companies. I'm sorry I'm writing a book here but there are many options. If you want to travel you need at least 1year as an RN in your specialty. Make profiles with more than one company for sure to get best rate & preferred location. Local contracts are also another good option. I hope this helps some, I would be happy to give you recruiter info or try to answer what questions I can for you 😊

@@Rogue_RN thanks for your response. I’ve traveled as a med surg RN for a little over two years .. Aya is okay most times but they can low ball you sometimes. My mistake, I misunderstood your original post I assumed you meant you contracted under a 1099

I work 1099 per Diem jobs. I picked up a job and had a really great day. They liked m & invited me back the following week, but posted the job at $100 LOWER than what it was posted for the first time I went. I cancelled that Job & picked up another job instead, making $500 MORE for the day than I would have if I went back to that job just because they liked me. 😃 I get paid through my LLC & have the power to make those kinds of decisions now. I absolutely love it! Thank you again, Crosby, for your course. There is something for everyone who truly wants to take control of their work life!

Capitalism is a double edge sword. Of course CEOs would like to cap nursing pay, they are on that side of the game. Like a defense attorney defending their client no matter if innocent or guilty. Corporations and even non profit healthcare institutions utilizing their monetary power to lobby congress seems a bit unfair, but the reality is it is not a fair game. But two can play that game. Many nurses now are making significantly more money since the pandemic, and there are many more nurses than that of CEOs. Nurses can unite and use the power of their vote as well as convince their family and friends to only vote for politicians who do NOT support the capping of nursing pay.
@CrosbyTheNomadNurse2 жыл бұрын
Agree. But the definition of capitalism is money/trade is between private owners and companies, not the state. So Using the government (congress) to Cap pay is not capitalism. Nurses should be fighting it through the market (capitalism) , which is what the CEOs and government are trying to stop.

The system takes advantage of our altruistic characteristics-the gaslighting of it all! Nurses are waking up- we don’t want to hear all this hero talk- We have bills too- Nurses we have played a part of this detriment- we have been the make do people for so long. No staff, we make do. No equipment, we make do. No more! Let’s see how they make do when we start owning our time and shifting our mindsets.

Nursing needs a national union, even MLB, NBA and NFL have one and their unions encourage players to go on strike whenever they have their million dollar salary disputes. Moreover, the terms of contracts to employ nurses should also include regular mandatory shadowing and participation of hands on patient care by hospital executives so they know what everyone on the front line does.
