This is one of the many tutorials John Walker watched

Every now and then I come back to this video because it was my first build and major inspiration for getting into filmmaking.
@Darkmane1312 жыл бұрын
Nice build! I believe this is how you can fix your strapping problem: Mark where you'll need your bold holes for your straps. Then, using a ball-pein hammer, you should pound the marked holes in a bit. Then drill the bolt holes for your straps. You've now got sunken holes for your bolts. You'll use less bondo and sandpaper as you finish your shield. I'm in the S.C.A. and have built many shields for fighting.

At the moment I am working on a superhero(or supervillain) Outfit based on the look of the Winter Soldier, but a little more... oldschool. So... kind of the Winter Soldier in the first Captain America movie, in WW2 :D And I want to add a shield to the outfit, so now I know how to do it :D Very cool thing you made there, I really like it! Mine will be... I think grey and brass/golden with a gearwheel instead of the star in the center. So it will be kinda steampunk Supervillain :D
@Solarstar1010 жыл бұрын
That sounds totally frickin awesome. I hope you upload a video, I actually subscribed in hope that you do.

Solarstar10 Ouh Thanks a lot :D Of course I'll upload a video ;)

I actually made one on the same day, but my materials were much simpler. I used a pizza box, scissors, red paint, paper, and yellow and blue foam. All of that would cost me less than $50, but I guess that's why YOU'RE the effects master. ;)

Making it out of a satellite dish explains why its as small as it is. I'm thinking a snow sled disk would be the better size. It's still an awesome prop and can be modded into many different shield types. Well Maybe not a kite shield.Thanks for finally putting this out Zack and Co.

If you live in a state with snow you could probably do this for about twenty bucks. All you would need to do is buy one of those circle sleds and some spray paint. But a cool build none-the-less.

@dannysheppard246811 жыл бұрын
dont worry about bolting the straps, i dont know why zach didnt know this but you have to scratch or sand metal before glueing, had he done that his straps would be fine
@hildago2513 жыл бұрын
You should do these builds; snorricam, chestmount, electicity sparks, collapsable knives stakes swords etc, flycam steadicam system, cine blimp.
@stormgilson710910 жыл бұрын
the problem with the glue is probobly the smooth surface. you should scratch the area you want to glue, or use an acid
@CodedLockFilms13 жыл бұрын
For those who don't have access to a satellite dish, I'd imagine that a circular snow sled would work pretty well too.
@fireteamperidotnova172811 жыл бұрын
I believe the reason the glue didn't stick well would be because you didn't prep the areas. if you sanded off the greyish coating I bet it would make for better bonding, would love to hear if it works or not

Tip: Instead of hot glueing the straps on the back, use jb weld to attach 4 bolts to the back, then secure the straps on with some nuts. JB weld never comes off, so it'll stay secure.

I couldn't find a satellite dish anywhere to use for the shield but I did use a foam saucer snow sled as a mold and did 5 layers of fiber glass over it then pulled it off and cut to 25 inches in diameter and used that for my shield and it turned out great.
@dickson1o113 жыл бұрын
im not sure whether i hate you or think you're the best, cause everytime i REALLY NEED a prop you make it the week AFTER i need it; example: the assassin's creed blade the week after halloween, and now the captain america shield after i needed one last week. its like somebody throwing a kevlar vest to you after you get shot
@plotcoalition12 жыл бұрын
WE NEED BFX BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@DanielS200113 жыл бұрын
Couldn't you just bolt or pop rivet the straps to the dish first and, use bondo to cover the tops of the bolts, sand it smooth so that the bolts don't show? I would assume that would work to make it look smooth.
@FlamingRoseStudios13 жыл бұрын
I think the glue didn't hold because of the paint, if you sand of the paint, and 'key' the metal with a grinding pad/steel wool, the glue would have a better chance of sticking.
@VenomOrochi12 жыл бұрын
i was planning to do this, a little bigger if possible, i was thinking on using 2 metal disc (one of them bigger than the other) and bolt the straps on the smaller disc, then mount the big one and fold the edges to wrap the 2 discs together... a little more complicated but that would solve the strap issue
@m0n5terZERO13 жыл бұрын

@Minigun101 The mask you're asking about is called a "V for Vendetta" mask (aka "Guy Fawkes mask"). You can buy them anywhere, including Amazon or eBay, or wait until Halloween, when they have tons of them available at any Halloween store.

Im in the middle of building this right now and decided to bolt on the straps cause i wanted to make it last.so I used Bondo to cover them and it is pretty solid I wouldnt say real heavy but its going to be a bit of a chore to carry around all day.when my costume is done.

@BaconLettucePickles13 жыл бұрын
@TheAwsome3138 look for those plastic dish shaped snow sleds. Cut it 30 inches in diameter. Add a second layer on the inside to actually attach the straps to so you don't have the same problems the BFX crew had.
