To me the greatest hero in the MCU is the guy who refused to launch the helicarriers. He was a desk guy surrounded by armed soldiers that he had no chance against and knew that if he didn't launch someone else would but he was still the first one to make a stand.

To add on to that, it seems like more people are willing to risk physical harm than going against the group and being shamed. And he stood up and said no without knowing if everyone would agree or if they would all think that he was the one betraying shield. Definitely a real hero.

The title actually has a double meaning. Yes, it refers to Bucky, but it's also a reference to the works of Thomas Paine, an 18th century writer who supported the American Revolution. In his writings, Paine mentioned "the summer soldier and the sunshine patriot" (i.e. people who only stand up and fight for what's right when it's safe and easy), as opposed to a "winter solider" (people who still fight when things are hard). People like Steve Rogers. Therefore, you could could argue that Captain America *IS* the Winter Soldier.

In the comics he has actual wings, and a sidekick bird (a falcon, natch) called Redwing. In the MCU he's a pararescue pilot; that's where the wing pack came from. He's been trained to rescue downed pilot & soldiers. A key part of his personality appears after we find out he now counsels troubled vets. Understanding, healing & compassion stand forth.

@@Myluz12they're not real wings like Angel's. They're just part of his suit, so I don't know why the previous comment said he has actual wings since they're actually less like wings than the movie version (in the comics, his wings are a similar design to the ones Spider-Man occasionally uses in the movies to glide).

@@Myluz12 they did redesign him a few years ago so that his wings are now more similar to the MCU version. He does have some powers though - he has the ability to telepathically communicate with birds which is why he has an actual bird side-kick, Redwing, but thankfully they removed that ability in the movies.

The Falcon first appeared in Captain America #117 in 1969. He didn't have flight in the beginning though, being a ground based hero a lot like Cap (except slower). They did give him a grappling hook claw, though, that enabled him to swing a bit like Spider-Man. In 1974, he gets an upgrade to where he can fly with the aid of special high technology wings. So, if he couldn't fly for the first few years of his existence, why did they call him "the Falcon" ...? It's because at the time of meeting Cap, he had been involved in a mad science affair where he was gifted with a very mild ability to telepathically communicate with birds, and thus Sam adiopted a falcon as a pet. In fights, his bird could locate enemies and distract them.

People forget that Captain America has a photographic memory and can learn at an exponential rate. So being in the modern times for a year or so, he's added a ton to his fighting styles with a lot of modern fighting techniques so he's literally a super fighting machine, more so than he was in WWII. And yes, Falcon was/is in the comics as a friend of Cap for years. Bucky as the Winter Soldier is also out of the comic storylines, and people went nuts in the audience with his reveal, not realizing Winter Soldier was in fact Bucky. Those cops were in fact Hydra, real cops are not that ruthless.

I'm surprised you didn't recognize Robert Redford; his career goes back to the sixties. He's in this movie because he made a fair number of political thrillers in the seventies. Fun Fact: he took this role because his grandkids are huge Marvel fans. The directors (the Russo brothers; we'll see their work in the MCU again) kept the use of CGI to a minimum. Nearly everything you see comes from a practical effect. One thing I didn't catch for a long time: the narrator at the museum is Gary Sinise.

In the 70s after coming home from school on Mondays I looked forward to watching the animated Captain America. I was heartbroken in the episode where Bucky Barnes died. I had forgotten about it after all these years until I saw ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’. Imagine my shock when I saw Bucky ‘die’ again. I had long ago forgotten about him. Now imagine the excitement I felt when I saw him alive in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’! This is now no.2 in my favorite MCU films. Actress Jenny Agutter, the council member that was Natasha (Scarlett Johanssen) in disguise, looked like Scarlett when she was younger. Some of my favorite films with Jenny Agutter were ‘Logan’s Run’, American Werewolf in London’ and ‘The Eagle Has Landed’.

42:30 Don't stress over the idea of 'Oh no what if they introduced us to these characters before and I don't remember?' The chances of that occurring are practically zero. They definitely introduce new characters all the time - such as the twins or Sam Wilson's Falcon. If they re-use another character who didn't play a huge role, like the guy who refused to launch the Insight ships even with a gun to his head, or Sharon Carter (Steve's neighbor, the 'nurse'), or others, they usually do a good job of providing context through dialogue. Looking forward to Age of Ultron!

13:53 This scene points to an _incredible_ display of trust. Steve Rogers is basically the world's ultimate _boy_ scout. He lives in a world of secrets but keeps the ones he has to deal with as few and as unintrusive he can _get_ them. Fury, on the other hand, has gotten _comfortable_ with the secrets that hide behind lies. A few scenes back, he was accusing Steve of being _naive._ He was _not_ calling him dishonest, though. He understands. Sometimes, a man is honest because lies breed _complications._ Each lie you tell is a lie you have to _remember._ Fury has come to Rogers because he _trusts_ Rogers.

A few small things happen in this movie that are some of my TOP favorite moments in the MCU and they happen so fast that a lot of people don’t notice at first. Agent 13: at the stand off when Rumlow is holding the gun to the one guy to get him to launch, when everyone starts shooting Agent 13 kicks the techs chair, sliding him away from the computer, causing Rumlow to miss, and effectively saving the techs life. Black Widow: 1) when Cap grabs her and launches them thru the window to get away when a grenade is thrown at them, BW instinctively shoots the window so they can smash thru it easier. And my FAVORITE: 2) after the Winter Soldier yeets Sitwell into oncoming traffic, Natasha follows his footsteps on the roof and then *dives* into the front seat right as a shot goes into the backseat, pulling Steve’s head away from the head rest just as the WS shoots thru, and then does the *same thing* for Sam by kicking him to the side, and again a shot right where Sam’s head had just been. She knew from his foot steps who he was aiming at

There are so many little details, its worth watching multiple times. I love the first view of the Winter Soldier, standing in the middle of the street in the haze and we start to hear the ominous Winter Soldier theme for the first time. When the car flips he steps aside so calmly and then walks to the car so casually. So cool. Later, when Rumlow and crew capture Steve, Natasha, and Sam just after the Bucky reveal, Steve is on his knees and you hear the Winter Soldier theme. It tells us what Steve is thinking.

During WW2, Marvel and DC created juvenile sidekicks for their superheroes. Bucky was the kid who helped Captain America. Later he was changed to a same age friend.

This was a very nice surprise today... I think consensus is that this movie fundamentally not only changed people’s views on Captain America as a hero, but the MCU as a whole. Someone noted below, but the filming of the movie with brand two new directors as brothers, the action sequences, the score and audio mixing and moments of character. It had great flow. I also saw someone note that when they saw it, that they were disappointed because it had been overhyped so I think it depends on what your expectations are/were. I know I had a group of friends that saw it together and put it right up there next to Avengers 2012 (because that’s what was out at the time) or better because they were that blown away by this film. Whether then, or now, I think most can easily fit this within their top 5 and I can easily see top 3, depending if you go by individual character films, trilogies or including Avengers films. Regardless though, this movie definitely up'd the ante for audiences when it was released. And behind the scenes I think it shows how Kevin Feige was able to balance people because Chris Evans had been disappointed by Cap's character in Avengers & bringing in some other A-list actors to help add more character to the story. And you will probably see moving forward, but how the MCU evolves with adding different “genres” to their movies because this was a “political spy thriller” as Kevin Feige(Was and is head of Marvel Studios) referred at the time when promoting this movie. Anthony and Joe Russo couldn’t have been better directors at a perfect time and helped carry out the rest of MCU for some of it's most important films. Did you also catch the easter egg of one of the directors being in a scene…? If ya didn’t, it was Joe Russo acting as the doctor helping Nick Fury and he makes a very brief appearance in the future MCU movies he and his brother direct. p.s. on the copy right, you would have to double check by looking it up, but I have seen other reactors have videos up to roughly an hour and 8 minutes for some long movies. Later down the line, it’s up to ya, some people break up Infinity War & Endgame into 2-part reactions since there’s so much “meat” in the movie. But that can also equate to any movie length, but that’s up to however you want to have your videos. Are your MCU uploads going to be on Saturdays? And I will say you left some very small tid bits of good parts on the cutting room floor, but I bet its hard to decide what goes in video and what doesn't. And they were not cops, the SUV AI noted there was no D.C. Dispatch in the area. They were under-cover Shield(technically Hydra agents) given orders to kill Fury. Anyways loved the reaction!

Hey!! Yeah I’m thinking probably move the MCU releases for Saturday, they typically have better ramp-up than on the weekends. This time I had lots of trouble with the copyright, so it wasn’t on purpose, but I think pushing it to Saturdays has definitely been beneficial.

Great reaction Cristy! Yeah tis movie showcased some really cool tech. The holographic mask/face disguise used by Black Widow was previously seen in the Agents of SHIELD TV series (which I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy). Also, Sam Wilson/Falcon's wings got an upgrade in the movies, being composed of metal and bulletproof. In the comics Falcon's wings were mylar and just allowed him to glide around. Yes, he was Captain America's partner back in the 1970s comics. As for Bucky, he survived falling from the train in the first Captain America movie because Zola had already started experimenting on him while captured. Whatever he'd done apparently made Bucky tougher/more durable. Remember Steve found Bucky on a medical table in the HYDRA base when he rescued the 107th. The MCU really gets rolling in the next movie- AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON!!

Great reaction to a great movie! The three Captain America movies are MCU writing at its finest. They involve so many characters and develop all of them to make them feel real, even background characters like Sharon/Agent 13 and the amazing Maria Hill. And the everyman character who has no special abilities but becomes heroic just by standing up for what is right appears in the Captain America movies regularly, from the soldiers of the Howling Commandos in the first movie to the nameless guy in this movie who refused to launch Project Insight even with a gun to the back of his head. The message is that everyone can be a hero on some scale, and it is a great feeling to realize that one has done something that is important to someone and matters to them, because that is the kind of thing that heroes do, even if it is done without acknowledgement or acclaim. A lot of the early movies in the MCU were taken from original comic book stories and adapted, so the stories were basically adapted from stories written by legends of the ideal era of comics. Makes it easier when one is just adapting the work of legends, but it still requires very good writers to not mess it up, and the first three phases had a lot of very good writers.

Hi Cristy!😊 This is easily one of my favorite films in the MCU!🥇 The lead bad guy Pierce is Robert Redford who is a legendary actor. See "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" (1969) some time. I didn't notice before that Steve's neighbor was talking to her aunt on the phone who is an insomniac. That is Peggy Carter. In this universe Captain Rogers is right about the carriers. With the level of corruption (Hydra) they are not ready to yield the power these represent. Control and power are important elements in future films. That is Loki's scepter (The Mind Stone). Great reactions to another top notch MCU film, Cristy!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏

A big thing about comic books is that no one ever really dies, they come back, they died in a different parallel universe ect. The only person in Marvel that they have a rule for is Uncle Ben (Peter Parker aka Spider-Man's uncle) stays dead. The rule for Marvel used to include Bucky, and in DC it was Jason Todd (the second Robin for Batman) but both were brought back to life in the comics Bucky was dead from like 1964 to 2005 in the comics. Only Uncle Ben remains as the only Marvel character that there is kind of a rule that he stays dead.

2:30 Not many people notice this because interactions are common nowadays but Steve's interaction with Sam at the beginning speaks to Steve's character and good heart. Why? Steve is a white man from the 1920s - 1940s when segregation still existed and here he is in modern times interacting with a black man all-natural like it is not something new to him. I believe it because he also got bullied during those times or he is just a purely good human looking past the color of the skin and cares more for the character. It could also be of the fact that he is from Brooklyn, N.Y. where your neighbors are a predominantly black population so interacting with them is nothing new to Steve.

Kevin Feige is the president of Marvel Studios and he's the one that keeps all the movies on the same track. Picture Iron Man as point A and they're telling a story culminating in point Z. He's in charge of making sure we are still on that same path. While movies w, x, y, and z haven't been written yet, they have a general idea of what that story will be which then means you can use all the paths before it to set it all up for later. Originally they were building up to the Avengers and so knowing it's going that direction they can then in Iron Man 2 say "oh hey, we need Black Widow in this movie" or in Thor say "We want just a hint of Hawkeye". Bucky is kind of a big one so I'm sure they planned to have him show up again somewhere down the line, but I don't think they know until the writers/directors come on board and decide if they're going to pick that up and use it then.

A couple of things you missed. If you know any MMA, GSP is the guy who went one on one with CAP on the ship. Falcon is in the comics, the first black Superhero introduced in 1969 When listing potentential threats to Hydra on the rooftop, Sitwell meantions Bruce Banner who you know and Steven Strange. Hmmm It’s Loki’s scepter.

What almost everyone under...what, 45? misses is that Secretary Pierce is played by Robert Redford, cinematic god and the hero of "Three Days of the Condor," the 1975 political thriller that this movie is very heavily...oh, we'll say inspired by. He always played good guys, so for folks of a certain age his heel turn here came as a real surprise.

I just found your channel. Liked and subscribed. To answer some of your questions with no spoilers: -- The MCU phases 1, 2, & 3 were fleshed out in pre-production in the middle 1990's. The MCU draws heavy references from the comics, but makes their own stories. The Marvel / Stan Lee spirit of story telling holds true for a while. Disney agenda creeps in and builds slowly until eventually saturating the Marvel franchise by the end of phase 3 - kind of like a real life Hydra. -- Yes, Falcon is a hero in Marvel Comics. He & Cap are close friends and shared many heroic comic book adventures together. The Winter Soldier (Bucky) is also very prominent in the Captain America comics. -- Nick Fury was indeed a bad-ass. During the initial attack on Fury, Nick's SUV computer tells him there were no police forces at that location. This told Nick those were agents disguised as police. At the time, Nick didn't know that Hydra was calling the shots.

Great Reaction...... Loving Your Journey...... The List in Steve's notebook, changed geographiclly based on where the movie was released (USA/England/France/Asia)...... Because I didn't go see this in theaters, "Marvel's Agents of Shield" Season 2 on TV was very confusing, cause all they would say was "Everything is different after what happened in Washington....." I say that to show how ALL the movies in the MCU interlink...... The Senator (Leaving Lunch) is the same Senator that was at the Hearing in "Ironman 2" where Stark and Hamer where fighting over control of the "Ironman Technology".....
