The elevator scene is still my favorite fight scene in the whole MCU. Rogers asking if anyone wanted to get off before the fight started was just perfect.

Winter Soldier is so good, it's basically a spy thriller starring Captain America and it works so well with Steve's idealism clashing with the morally grey world of espionage. He and Black Widow are such a fun pairing. Also Bucky being alive is actually a very recent thing, the Winter Soldier was only introduced into the comics in 2005 after like 40 years where he was presumed dead and was even cited as one of the only characters in superhero comics that actually stay dead for real.😂

The tv show Agents of Shield was in its first season before the movie came out. Mid season, Winter Soldier came out and then the tv show showed the repercussions for the rest of SHIELD the next week. It was absolutely crazy. We as the audience finally understood that the filler episodes in early Season 1 were really just buying time for Winter Soldier to be released. Then Agents of Shield could finally tell the story that they wanted.

Also, if you thought Cap kept getting the best movies based off the first two, ‘Captain America: Civil War’ is REALLY going to blow your mind. Can’t wait to see you reaction to that movie! 34:54..Thought you'd like to know "Captain America and The Falcon" was one of Marvel's top 5 sellers of the 70's--Sam and Steve fought side by side for 8 years, whipping super villans, aliens, and Hydra. "Winter Soldier:'s one of my top 3 MCU films. Applause for Robert Redford (Pryce) in his first evil guy role in 50 years of acting? I think Steve telling Bucky "I'm with you till then end of the line" was the first memory-slap..2nd was seeing Steve fall to his death, the same way it happened to him 70 years ago. Fun reaction and keep cool!!

This was my favorite MCU movie for a long time, with no contenders to replace it. But I have to admit that one or two later movies came close. Granted, I'm an older guy who grew up on the political and spy thrillers of the 1960s thru early 1980s. And this was a nice throwback to that era. If you want to see more films of that kind, I highly recommend "The Spy who Came In from the Cold", "Our Man in Havana", and the BBC miniseries, "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" (as well as the sequel, "Smiley's People", if you like "Tinker, Tailor".) One of my fondest memories of my dad is watching "Tinker, Tailor" with him when it premiered in the US on PBS. The John Le Carree books are excellent, as is the Graham Greene novel that was the basis for "Our Man in Havana". There was a movie version of Tinker, Tailor, but they had to compress so much of the really complex story into a movie format, so a lot was lost. But it is worth watching also, if you don't want to commit to a miniseries or book.

I'm a big defender of the MCU and think its totally fine that a lot of them are just big, fun popcorn-movies. The Captain America films though are a cut above... They're genuinely good, in addition to being a lot of fun. They have a real _thoughtfulness_ to them that set them apart from the rest of the MCU.

This may be my favorite Marvel movie. Certainly top 3. Sad that one of the major threads holding the MCU together - S.H.I.E.L.D. - is no longer. While I try to justify it internally as part of the main arc of the movie franchise, I know inside it was an amazing hook which allowed a spin off TV show to be released. I don't watch TV though. On Clock position. Imagine a round clock face in front of you. Push it over, stand in the middle facing the 12. Now all clock numbers show a location relative to your facing with the classic "Check your Six" directly behind you.

(And will go on to direct "Captain America: Civil War", "Avengers Infinity War", and "Avengers Endgame") So the Abed cameo is no mistake! It was a tribute to their roots as TV directors! And look out, there might be another couple of Community cameos in their future Marvel movies! ;)

There was another end-credit scene btw! Definitely worth watching, I think it gives you more to look forward to. 49:00 And I think your list may be wrong bc the next movies should be Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and Ant-Man (2015) which ends Phase 2. Guardians Vol 2 isn't until right before Spider-man Homecoming (2017). This really is a fantastic movie and introduces one of my FAVORITE MCU characters, Sam Wilson aka Falcon! And the stuff with Bucky is heartbreaking. I'm someone who thoroughly enjoys all the recent MCU projects (Phase 4 is my second favorite phase), but The Winter Solider just ahs something real special about it. Can't wait for more MCU reactions! Yes, Iron Man 3, Thor The Dark World, and The Winter Soldier are pretty much happening around the same time which is why they can't help each other lol Watching a bit of WandaVision when you didn't know the characters or context is kinda crazy, but it's cool to know you found it interesting regardless!

And personally, for my own viewings, I think it's better to have the series within the MCU well interspersed instead of one right after another so that it's harder to get bored or fatigued from seeing the same characters. Black Widow does get her own movie. The movie itself takes place between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers Infinity War. However, the end credit scenes take place AFTER Avengers, Endgame, so don't watch the end credits until after Endgame!

You may want to double check the movie list there... there are 4 movies in between Guardians 1 and 2... (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange) The 'List of Marvel Cinematic Universe Films' Wikipedia article will give you everything in release order (not including the shows, but you don't have to worry about those for awhile) - just skip all the text and only look at the tables....

Hey, Shadowcat! Marvel films hit their stride with "Winter Soldier" and it remains one of the highest regarded films in the saga. The movie represents a tonal shift in the MCU towards mature, gritty storytelling with real-world consequence which roped in many non-superhero enthusiasts. It was made in the style of 1970s political thrillers like "Three Days of the Condor" and "The Parallax View" with a healthy dose of "The Manchurian Candidate". As with all the best espionage films, the story was expertly filled with twists, double-crosses, skullduggery and shocking revelations culminating with an incredible race-against-the-clock crisis. Showing Captain America break faith with the institutions he serves due to his disillusionment with systemic corruption is extraordinary and demonstrates his integrity. The plot is drawn from 'The Winter Soldier' arc of Ed Brubaker's legendary 134-issue run on "Captain America" during the 2000s. Paired with the moody, naturalistic illustrations of Steve Epting, the duo revitalized the character and his supporting cast for post-modern readers. The bold move of resurrecting Bucky Barnes and reframing his legacy was a stroke of brilliance that left an impactful mark on latter-day Marvel comics. The element of SHIELD being infiltrated by subversives is drawn from the 1988 limited series "Nick Fury vs. SHIELD" written by Bob Harras and illustrated by Paul Neary. The Triskelion as the headquarters for SHIELD was lifted directly from Marvel's secondary Ultimate Universe line although the film locates it in DC on the Potomac whereas the comics set it in New York Harbor. Similarly, the technological interpretation of Falcon is a nod to the Ultimate iteration of the character whereas the original Marvel iteration can telepathically communicate with birds and has a glider harness with mylar wings and titanium ribbing. Co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo were untested filmmakers who landed the plum gig after Kevin Feige saw their two-episode stint on the TV sitcom "Community"! Nevertheless, the brothers knocked this film out of the park and were tapped again to continue guiding the good Captain's adventures down the line. The action sequences are phenomenally staged but grounded enough that you feel the weight of each impact and only realize you're watching a superhero film when Steve intermittently exceeds human limits. The opening hostage rescue, the Fury ambush, the sniper attack, the elevator brawl, the Quinjet takedown, the freeway chase, the underpass shoot-out and the climactic Triskelion assault are all top-tier set pieces that are thrilling to watch! Despite wall-to-wall action, there is enough downtime to prevent fatigue, to advance plot like Hydra's insidious long-game and to build character like Steve's bedside scene with a senile Peggy. I especially like the use of the real-life 'Operation: Paperclip' in which 1,500 Nazi scientists and engineers were granted immunity and recruited by the CIA's precursor, the OSS, to work for the US government. In the film, Hydra scientists like Arnim Zola use the opportunity of this brain-drain to embed themselves in SHIELD from its very inception. The cast is remarkable. Steve Rogers comes into sharp focus here and Chris Evans truly made the Captain his own the third time around. Carrying over from "The First Avenger", Sebastian Stan returns as a grimly resurrected James Buchanan 'Bucky' Barnes aka The Winter Soldier, Toby Jones lends his voice to the disembodied digital form of Dr. Arnim Zola and Hayley Atwell briefly appears as an aged Peggy Carter. Anthony Mackie makes a strong, likable impression as Sam Wilson aka Falcon as does Emily VanCamp as undercover Agent 13. They join returning allies Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill and Samuel L. Jackson as Col. Nick Fury who gets showcased in a hair-raising action sequence all his own! Having an actor of Robert Redford's stature play Alexander Pierce was not only a casting coup but paid tribute to his role in "Three Days of the Condor"! Rounding out the villain roster is Frank Grillo as a pre-Crossbones Brock Rumlow and UFC welterweight champion Georges St.-Pierre as French mercenary Georges Batroc the Leaper, two traditional Cap antagonists. Callan Mulvey plays the itchy trigger-fingered double-agent Jack Rollins. Maximiliano Hernandez as Agent Jasper Sitwell, who was introduced in "Thor" and was seen throughout the saga in films, One-Shots and "Agents of SHIELD" episodes, is revealed as a Hydra sleeper along with Garry Shandling as Senator Stern returning from "Iron Man 2". The head of Hydra himself, Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, played by Thomas Kretschmann, puts in a cameo for the end-credit scene as do the Maximoff twins, Pietro aka Quicksilver and Wanda aka Scarlet Witch, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen. World Security Council members leave their shadowed holo-conference screens to show up in person this time with European representative Hawley, played by Jenny Agutter, being the only returnee from "Avengers". North American Councilman Rockwell is played by Alan Dale, South Asian Councilman Singh is played by Bernard White and East Asian Councilman Yen is played by Chin Han. Steven Culp and Nestor Serrano have bit parts as irate Congressional Committee members who grill Natasha. Gary Sinise lends his voice to the Captain America Smithsonian exhibit as narrator. TRIVIA: 1. Nick Fury relates that his grandfather was an elevator operator which is what Samuel L. Jackson's real-life grandfather did for a living. 2. When Alexander Pierce opens his refrigerator, a jar of Newman's Own sauce is clearly visible as an homage to the two times Redford and Paul Newman shared the screen. 3. Steve's catch-up list differed by country but had seven fixed items: Thai food, Star Wars, Star Trek, Nirvana, Rocky, Rocky II and Troubleman. The countries for which items were added to the list include the US, the UK, Australia, Italy, France, Spain, Russia, Brazil, South Korea, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking countries of South America collectively. 4. Nick Fury's tombstone bears the epitaph "The path of the righteous man. Ezekiel 25:17". This was Jules Winnfield's favorite verse in "Pulp Fiction", a character Jackson is famous for playing. 5. The Winter Soldier's moniker comes from the Thomas Paine quote that "the summer soldier and sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman." 'He' is the winter soldier, the inverse of 'the summer soldier'. EASTER EGGS: 1. When Steve and Natasha enter the old SHIELD headquarters at Camp Lehigh, they find portraits of SHIELD's three founders: Colonel Chester Phillips, Howard Stark and Peggy Carter. 2. Sitwell reveals Zola's algorithm is targeting potentially problematic persons of interest like Bruce Banner and Stephen Strange. This is the first reference to Doctor Strange in the saga. 3. Agent 13's real name is revealed as Sharon by Natasha. This hints at her familial tie to another MCU character for comic readers who know the implication of the name. 4. Although corrupt in the film, Jack Rollins is the actual name of a heroic SHIELD agent from the "Nick Fury vs. SHIELD" comics who alerts Fury to the enemy infiltration. CAMEOS: 1. Co-director Joe Russo plays the underground doctor tending to Nick Fury during the scene where he reveals he's alive. 2. Captain America scribe Ed Brubaker plays the bearded Hydra scientist tending to the Winter Soldier during the scene where Pierce orders his mind wiped. 3. Stan Lee plays the Smithsonian security guard who discovers that Cap's World War II uniform has been stolen. END-CREDIT SCENES: 1. Yes, the Black Widow did finally get her movie, and it got delayed due to Covid. If you're watching the movies in any kind of order, I highly recommend you watch Black Widow BEFORE Infinity War. That's the order it's supposed to have been released in. Did you miss the 2nd End Credit Scene? They got sneaky by putting in two of them. And it's Bucky! Go and watch it now, plz. Great reactions,.

Also, if you watch Black Widow out of release order, then at least watch it after CA:Civil War, because again spoilers and possibly not understanding exactly what is going on with Natasha. For a semi-first time watching of the MCU, release order is always best, chronological order is fun for a rewatch. The next movie to watch in release order is Avengers: Age of Ultron. GOTG:Vol 2 shouldn’t be watched until phase 3 after Dr. Strange and before Spider-Man: Homecoming.

A small note from a planning perspective of this particular MCU phase. - The sequence here is slightly off (not for the first time) and partly due to production of "Guardians of the Galaxy" facing some minor delays. In fact, just getting it off the ground had proved to be something of a challenge initially. However, in terms of placement it is odd that "Thor: The Dark World" leads directly into "Guardians of the Galaxy" while this movie leads directly into the events of the next big Avengers crossover event movie. I would say that by viewing "Guardians" first you watched in the correct order, or at least what it was originally intended to be.

My wife is Black and we are also just, like, "yeah, the past really wasn't that great, though..." lol. _Maybe_ the '70s, just because the music scene was so good then and it was post-Civil Rights era, but there was still a crap-ton of tension (like, more than today).

A shadowcat crossed my path, some people said that would be unlucky, it's okay, she wouldn't remember anyway😂 Seriously though the movies you saw, probably best you didn't remember, so many call backs that would have spoiled things for you. On the other hand people in the know took a look at Hydras kill list in this movie at the time and recognized a bunch of marvel characters not yet introduced, even the interrogation the guy pointed out "some punk kid named Peter Parker anyone who might be a threat" or in other words people who would fight back. Awesome that you could enjoy this without being spoiled, but don't dig too much into the secrets because it ties into spoilers for so many other things.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is *not* the next movie, unless you have decided to abandon going by release order. After Captain America: The Winter Solider comes: Guardians of the Galaxy (the first one, which you have already seen) Avengers: Age of Ultron Ant Man - - - - - Then you move into Phase Three: Captain America: Civil War Doctor Strange Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 Spider-Man: Homecoming Thor: Ragnarok Black Panther Avengers: Infinity War Ant Man and the Wasp Captain Marvel Avengers: Endgame Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Please don’t watch these in chronological order if this is your first time!? Release order is the best way to watch these. Don’t watch Guardians Vol2 next, you will have a huge gap between seeing them again. Sadly it’s a product of Disney+ making chronological order one of the first choices for watching the MCU. I really really think you are missing out by watching in chronological order instead of release order. The 2nd film in chronological order spoilers plot beats about the entire end of the giant story being told. I wish more people told first time viewers not to watch in chronological order.
