In my opinion Jimi’s lyrics weren’t always ‘top en’, but, boy, he was a supreme guitarist- nobody can touch him from ‘60’s - todays! RIP, Jimi (guitar maestro), you’ve spellbound me with your guitar ability, since I was 14 and now I’m 69 the sentiment hasn’t changed. I just live & loved your workk, Jane Russell

The last time he played Liverpool about eight of us were in the queue ( inside the building ) when the band came in a side door in a line. Don came up to the guy in front of me, clasped him on the shoulders, and said " I haven't seen you for years ! " . Our pal was obviously in a state of shock, and all he could manage was " Ohhh, Captain ! " . I hardly ever think about that, for some weird reason .................... Must mention Bickershaw, where he came on about 4 a.m. Spotlight Kid time. ( Straight after Dr. John, the NIght Tripper .... ) .

I also saw him at Bickershaw, he was absolutely fantastic!. I recall it was night time I didn't realize it was 4 AM. Dr. John was absolutely phenomenal too! What a festival, in spite of the appalling weather conditions!

@@gerardgarbutt607 That saturday night kicked off with the Kinks, who were just soooooo old fashioned - but when you wrote You Really Got Me, you can be as old fashioned as you like. The very hip Family and the one and only Hawkwind, setting the stage for the only two American bands who could stand up to such a challenge. All the above faded into oblivion within months, when Roxy Music seemed to incorporate the best of them all, and were worth going to Crystal Palace Bowl to see - one saturday lunchtime ! But there is something to be said for an all night gig, probably one of the least known festivals of all time. I don't know about the whole gig, but there are at least a few Beefheart tracks from Bickershaw available - on the Grow Fins compilation, for sure ........

@@gerardgarbutt607 I was so surprised to hear that, I went looking. There's a really good site for example, which says Hawkwind played the friday, and doesn't mention Stackridge, who I remember. So I tried the other way round and looked for Wishbone Ash Bickershaw. All I can say is, I hope I saw them, and if I did I feel ashamed to have forgotten - I must do some heavy penance on that score some time this evening ......................................... Also, as a result of my little search, I am able to tell you that we were rubbing shoulders with Joe Strummer, who particularly liked the Cap at Bickershaw, it seems ...

'm pretty sure this is the version from The Mirror Man Sessions. It's certainly not the version from Strictly Personal if that's what you mean. If you don't have the full version of Mirror Man Sessions then... you need to. Not only is it a massive improvement on the original release (let alone Strictly Personal...), for my money it's Beefheart's best record. I will say no more.

@@sirperybLakeney You're a clever bastard, is clear ! Another thing that stands out in the same way as the Mirror Man tracks, is something I have never managed to track down : - there was a Virgin double album sampler called V ( with a five fingered hand on the cover ) which had three cuts on which I seem to remember included a scintillating Upon the My Oh My. ? But basically, Spotlight Kid .........................
