It actually is pretty much an opposite no russian. In No Russian, you go on a massacre of unarmed civilians (up until you fight FSB), and utilie the M240, an American LMG. In Dust to Dust, you massacre armed men and utilize the PKP Pecheneg, which is a russian weapon.

Getting this on Veteran opened my mind. Sure, I beat this game before, but this was different. I memorized each movement, grenade throw, everything. I looked at Yuri, nodded at him and said “One last time brother.” I rushed up the stairs, each frame more real and pounding than the last. Through everything, I sat grim, as if I had seen it all. It truly changes you, I highly recommend playing through Veteran at least once.

The only gripe I have about this game was the ending. The way I see it, Yuri and Price could’ve swapped places, with Yuri being the one to hang Makarov in an act of poetic justice. And in his final moments, a dying Price asks Yuri to light up his cigar, presumably to enjoy one last smoke, but instead passes it onto Yuri, symbolizing the passing of the torch as Yuri gives Price a heartfelt goodbye.

I always got a little sad when playing as a different character than the normal playable one because it almost always meant that the character was going to die. They did the same in BO1 with Reznov and Dimitri
