Yeah... black = bad, white = good. Typical standard stereotyping. But it fits and in the New CGI show Black gets to be a bit more directly involved, more talkative and more character than his 67s stick in the mud. But these where the 67s and they did what they could with what they had. I am glad this show exists.

Like a good Columbo eposide. You know who the murder is right from the start, but the Inspector has to prove it. You know the goal, but the rest... and it's not as if knowing the goal has always helped SPECTRUm. They lost some times too, despite their knowledge. Not to mention the characters are rather well developed. Too bad both shows, the old and the new ended too soon. This could have gone on for a lot longer.

Every supervillain worth their salt and pepper raves and rants about their goals and plans. That makes them all the more menacing, when the good guys still lose, despite their knowledge.

DarkSaber2k It actually resonates as the actual over all plan and agenda is for complete control over the host, Humans. So really, they are telling us and we are sub consciously absorbing that information into our conscious. Thus allowing better manipulation and control over the masses to accept the lie which is exactly how you control a species. Come on, keep up.

I loved watching Captain Scarlet when I was a kid. The intricate realism of the sets and the ultra-modernism of Spectrum base especially awed me. I also loved the theme song, the sexiness of the "angels" (following in Star Trek's footsteps, an early example of giving women high status in an organization), the businesslike tone of the officers' speech, and the scary unpredictability of Captain Black as the Mysterons' double agent (they killed him in the first episode for firing on their Mars city and assumed his likeness). All in all, a great sci-fi viewing experience. Thanks for bringing this back.

This intro is burned in my mind from childhood. I was born in 87 so I caught the show in those 90s repeats and I wore out my VHS. I'd been through Thunderbirds and Stingray but Captain Scarlet still blew me away. To this day it's my favourite of Gerry Anderson's shows.

haha, whever I knock on someone's door I always use 7 knocks in the rhythym of Captain Scarlet's timpani. And, it was the best of the Anderson's 'marionette' shows, though it'd be hard for me to choose between CS and Space 1999 for their all out best.

As I grew up in east germany before the wall came down, I only got to watch this in the 90s. Still love it. Definitely my favorite of the 60s puppet shows. I really love the characters and the puppets look much more refined than in Stingray, Fireball or Thunderbirds. Also, after rewatching the New CGI Captainn Scarlet, I rewatched the old show. I like both and think both shows ended way too early.

I always thought captain black was cool. He just hung out in graveyards, waiting for his next mission from the mysterons. I wanted to be him. In my head, I thought he was smoking too, but my memory must have confused that with the mist in the graveyard. Still, when I was older enough to buy cigarettes at 16, I bought some, dressed all in black, and went to a graveyard and smoked!!!

***** There, There, There!! don't take on so, you don't realise it, but you are in fact a blameless victim of and suffering from, that well known condition of FBS (forgotten battery syndrome) a not uncommon parental Christmas and birthday phenomenon. But I really do feel your pain! (How about a a battery-less Moon Lander Christmas 1971, Mon 7 am Whitehaven, it was raining and I was wearing blue and white pyjamas and holding a half eaten Bandit biscuit and my left index finger was bandaged at the time, but I think I'm over it now). There's only one way to heal that terrible lasting damage and bring final closure to the terrible harm done all those years ago, you badly need to acquire one on ebay! and at any price!! and display it in your home in full view and in pride of place.

Film & TV As I'm sure you know, in reality Captain Scarlet was always injured and often died when he was shot. His Mysterion powers of Retro-Metabolism always allowed him to be revived and reconstructed. This scene was symbolic and metaphoric, allowing the viewer to decide if the shots missed or not. But as you say this introduction was designed to make a point, introducing the viewer to the fact that he is indestructible.

I lived in England for one year, in 94, and I remember these were BIG reruns at the time. I had the entire Thunderbirds island as a playset.

My fave also when I was 7. I got it on DVD in the early 80s, and now have it on DVD so clear, you can see the wires. We are living inthe best of times...

I used to binge this show when I was younger, pretty sure I've seen every single episode at least twice. Looking back now it's pretty shitty though, it's sad and wonderful how drastically things in your life can change.

I have a confession, I grew up in Slough in the 60's & as a kid me & a mate used to get into the back yard area of Century 21 studios which was on the Slough trading estate. We'd sneak over the chain link fence on a sunday when it was quiet & pinch old polystyrene scenery - mountains etc, from around the skips. It was brilliant for playing with toy soldiers. Sorry Mr. Anderson, I'm an upstanding citizen these days. A few of the studio crew had kids at the same school as me.

God dammit, I knew I didn't dream this show. All I remember is that I fucking loved it, even though it scared the shit out of me, and that damn theme song - "Captain Scarlet (Captain Scarlet)" has been randomly popping into my head for the last 20 years. I don't know why I never bothered to look it up until now. Time for a nostalgic binge watch I think

He did a lot more than that. He singlehandedly gave us the Electrical 20th, century, RADIO, RADAR, Robotics, Radio-Control, wireless transmission of energy, bladeless turbines, plyphase AC transmission and AC motors (the ROTATING magnetic field makes AC power possible), and a host of over 700 fundamental patents.
