A quick update: For our new video kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmerlINse9ODkNk we had an authentic TR-909 replica and again performed Exhibitionist 2 Mix 3. It turns out the 909 did have a metronome function which you can activate by pressing GUIDE while in TAP RECORD mode. You also can't simply hold an instrument button on the TR-909 to punch in a series of 16th notes, you have to press the button really fast like a professional Tetris player aiming for a new world record on an NES controller. Jeff Mills does this so subtly that it's easy to miss - his finger barely moves but if you look closely you can see it jittering while he punches in the Closed Hats.

A most splendid video from the Captain! I loaned Jeff Mills my TR909 when he did a gig at the Pelican Club in Aberdeen. His thin wiry hands moved like the wind all over my 909.

I probably have more of Jeff's music in my collection than any artist. His records are so much fun to play with and are designed to work with each other. so I would always by duplicates, same for his UR work. He gets better and better, and I like his new work even more.

@@tylon2999 Oh absolutely! His work is even cross generational. I’m young, just graduated high school, compared to most people that enjoy his music. And I got the same admiration that people that knew about him since the 90s, 80s and 2000s. Been a fan of his since 8th grade. Dude’s a huge inspiration and has influenced the way I mix, even if I just use a four channel DJ controller.

Not only are we given information concisely, but our attention is held captive by the gorgeous animation and vivid colours. I subscribed a month or two ago, but now I’ve joined the Patreon. The only way we can see more of this is if we give them a chance to quit their day jobs people!

Great vid! I'm new to your channel, so apologies if you've covered this already, but where are you getting the charts for drum patterns and, if you create them yourself, is there a template? Also, I would be curious about your take on the best drum machines with multiple outs? I like the vermona, from your vid, and currently have (and love) the MFB 522, although it's a little limited, and mostly use it triggered externally via midi.
