All there is to her is the sugary snacks. No real, nice conversations or even a nice hug. Oh yeah yeah I know. But I do find it kind of telling she thought she had to shower her kids in sweets, and never making them a home cooked meal. Something must have gone wrong with sweets and feelings when she was young as well. I have my own ‘addiction’, and spend more time on the internet than might be healthy in my free time. But I know it’s not healthy, and I’m a babysitter, and I make sure that when I watch kids, I go out to playgrounds and woods with them. I don’t put them in front of the tablet to be ‘the fun babysitter’; I know what I do is not healthy, so I even make sure to keep my phone away, and have a book ready if I have some free time, to set a good example. I’m not saying she was a bad mother. We don’t know all the details, and they might have added some drama to the episode. I’m just saying, her children not visiting her, doesn’t make her the only victim: the kids must have their reasons.

You never know. My mom was very absent during the 2 years she had custody of us and then a couple of years later when our dad let us choose for awhile and it was a disaster. But later on she changed and helped US alot. I wouldn't be doing as well as I am without her support 30 years ago and we're still close to this day. I like to think I help her as she helped me when my stepfather died and her uncertainty about retirement, I hope so.

If you're trying and you feel like they still dislike you, find the time to talk things out with them privately. If things go wrong, then, *cut them out of your life* ( *you don't need them if they act like that and you don't need that negativity in your life* ) ; focus more on your relationship between you and your biological parent. Don't let your step-parent ruin your relationship with your mother. Good luck!

I love how they’re really tackling this loneliness diagnosis with literally everything except for “maybe join a knitting circle!” or “how about look for some friends” and then give her tools for confidence. After every scene of a breakthrough they’re like “look at her, she’s doing so much better, look at this lesson she learned” like it’s because of their sugar lesson but it’s not; it’s because they gave her what she wants, which is people to spend time with. She’ll be able to quit the sugar addiction once she’s able to be comfortable independently and doesn’t feel so lonely, though it’s not going to be fun. I’m sure she will be feeling sick for quite a while and her palate (sp?) will be very…well, food probably won’t taste good to her for a good bit. Best of luck to her!!
