This is such a sad song. Thematically I think it fits because it's a journey through time of how we lost our way. From cherishing beauty to exploiting beauty.

Oh! I totally missed that parallel but it's such a core aspect of the stories being told.

Frank Ocean always makes boomerang songs as I call them. They are sonically very descriptive, bringing you in a certain direction, and then at some point it boomerangs in an almost opposite direction. His song structure and arrangements are some of the most intriguing of modern musicians, alas he hasn't released much material given the span of his career. In some ways, Frank brings a prog attitude to genres and fusions of genre that have almost no representation in prog.

I wasn't too sold on Pyramids -- it's neat but didn't grab me -- but I'm more intrigued by your description of bringing prog to other genres. I might have to check out an album to see how other songs might work for me.

@@CriticalReactions Blonde, his second album, is a more mature album in this respect.

Im a metalhead but i also love other genres and this album holds a special place in my heart. Frank is a real talent, even though he has been upsetting his fans. Hes gone through a lot of heartache the last few years.

Other than being a brilliantly written song, John Mayer's guitar work on this track is just fantastic.

Frank Ocean has been on my radar for a while now. I kinda regret I didn't get to him when I was on my pop kick. As to this track, I definitely appreciated the production and atmosphere, but it does get rather repetitive. I mean, there's basically two main ideas with very small variations within them spread across 10 minutes. I have no idea why the track had to be 10 minutes given the rather sparse amount of musical material. As with all well-produced pop though there is a lot of details added into the soundscapes, so at least does keep my ears from getting completely bored. So I woudln't say I loved this, but it does have me intrigued to hear more.

I heard this song when I was in highschool and it was an early lesson not to fall in love with a stripper.
