I'm waiting for the upgrade too so I can buy this camera (or maybe the Z90 or NX80) at a reduced used price as people upgrade. Right now, even the used models are still too pricey for me to justify.

Dear Sony, Myself and many others are disappointed in the long wait for 4K 60p only for it not to be delivered with this new release. I have used my AX100 faithfully for two years and it is a tremendously well-engineered prosumer camera with great image quality at 4K and the unmatched 50Mpbs 1080 60p XAVC codec that blew away the competition. I can't speak for others, but for myself, the fluidity of 60p footage is highly important for the fast-moving subjects I shoot which has led me to abandon shooting in 4K almost entirely, which many paid extra to have over the CX900 HD-only model. Please, if it is at all possible to release a 4K 60p 150 Mpbs firmware update, I, and many others, will jump on the opportunity to upgrade from our AX100's. DSLR bodies don't work for me...the compact run-and-gun style of the AX100/700 does. Sony has proven the with the body, image and color quality, and UI of the AX100/700 to still be far superior to competitive releases, so, let's do the favor everyone was expecting and make the jump to 4K 60p!

Well said. I have had the CX900 for two years myself and I love it but I have always had problems with AF and dynamic range, so the features of the AX700 are pretty appealing to me. I got the CX900 because 4k mode on the AX100 just had way too much rolling shutter for trains, so the faster sensor on the AX700 which could possibly reduce rolling shutter is also interesting to me. The only thing I would say is that almost no other camcorders in this prosumer price bracket except for some JVC stuff I would stay away from do 4k 60p, so while Sony doesn't get a free pass for this at least they're not alone. I have recently been shooting at 1080p30 as opposed to 60fps due to my fluid head starting to degrade, and I've found that it really doesn't make as huge of a difference as I would have thought with railfanning. If it wasn't for the sphincter-clinching price increase from my CX900, I would definitely give the AX700 a try.

You're right about the sensor change, that would make things more appealing for shooting fast-paced shots in 4K, even at 30p. As for AF, yeah, I turned totally manual after about a month of frustration with that. Dynamic range, in my opinion, is incredibly good for a camera at this price range, it blew away any experience I ever had with Canon, but I always experienced a bit of grain once the gain passed 9db, so I would try to stay below that setting as much as possible. As for the color balance, Sony was pretty much spot on with this camera at stock settings. I never color grade and don't plan too. Even to this day, Canon's stock color/saturation settings are awful, they're a bit green and warm in certain color ranges. As far as 60p goes, we know this camera is capable of that codec because they are offering 30p HDR? So why not release the firmware to boost sales!

Yeah the dynamic range is absolutely way better than Canon and other camcorders. I was mainly saying that as compared to a couple other Sony 1” sensor cameras I’ve had the chance to play around with, and also as compared to my A6000 and other larger sensor cameras. And that’s probably the best approach with going completely manual focus; I tend to use AF until the train gets next to me and then I use manual focus for panning and other close-range stuff. I do hope that they release a 4k60 firmware update for the AX700, and it’s not completely unlikely (the A6000 got a firmware update 2 years in to support XAVC-S). But who knows what they will do

I think Sony, like any other company, cares about making money, which they do by producing something people want. So yes, I think they do care, but as a means to an end. So if there is something people want that also won’t make them money, they wouldn’t do it. I have no idea if that is the case here specifically.

Come on......why on earth this does not have 4k 50/60p recording? and the waiting goes on ....since Ax100 introduced in 2014. I bought FDR AX53 last year disappointed with 24P and was looking far an upgrade . Now I may have to go for Canon Legria GX10

I had an idea, what if you had dual focus tracking, where you can focus on to 2 points on the same object or have the aperture change to maintain focus on 2 types of subjects

I've got 2 AX100s rigged. Was ready to pop for the AX700 as I love the quality of the AX100. Dual cards and HDR are not enough to send me into spend mode. I rarely use any of my other HD cameras as shooting in 4K at 60 or 100 mbps at 30 fps future proofs clients footage. I'll lay in the weeds for a bit and see if the 60fps 4K is in the next version.

Sony missed the trick here. This is little more than a re-branded X70, the 3-year-old "Pro" equivalent of the AX100. HLG is nice, but still a 100 Mbps codec only, still only 30p in 4K, still only 8bit color depths. Sorry Sony, but we are in 2017!! Glad I moved over to the Panasonic GH5 in time as this AX100 replacement won't cut it.

Yeah but the GH5 has an Achilles heel with it's horrible focus issues where a person is in front of the lens and it keeps focusing on the background instead. Otherwise it would be a home run.

Firstly put the camera into "manual" mode, and then press "S&Q - 1" on the LHS - then press and hold "S&Q - 1" and use the thumbstick to select 1fps, 2fps, 3fps, 6, 12, 25, 50fps. lower values will speedup (timelapse) and 50fps will give a dream like slow motion. Pressing the "S&Q - 1" twice will get you to the super-slow motion which is amazing (beware that you need a serious well lit subject (strong day ligt is best) and ideally measure your focal target

None of this footage is captured with the AX700. The camera does not actually support Slog3 or any colour profiles. Only the base profile works without excessive noise. The Sony Engineers personally emailed saying this is to be the case. Saying your mobile phone's camera has better dynamic range and image quality is an understatement.

Yes, would have been time for 4K/60p since even iPhone8/X and 300€ Xiaomi action cams can do this, also the Canon GX10 and the GH5. Ok, at least we get 4K/HDR here, so I expect this to be 10bit since HDR/HLG requires 10-/12bit by standard, 8bit is not accepted. Unluckily no specs about that telling 4K HDR is really 10bit. On the other side it's not such a big deal since a GH5 can do this for a very similar price.

I uploaded a video made with this camera using hlg. It sees good on mac, but in Pc or hp the image looks not really good. Does anybody recommend me to do something to solve it? Actually I did not correct image because it looks good on computer, the problem is when the video is in KZbin

you can just simply drag and drop it. you need a software like davinci to upload it in hdr to youtube.
