One of the best videos so far about Capture One and how to apply good color grading ! Especially about landscape photography ! Keep doing those great videos!

I honestly love your videos I will continue to support you as much as I can! I think in regards to color notice a lot of complementary matching but I wonder are there other color techniques? Like other type of pairings etc.
@KasiaZmokla4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Andrew! Do you mean other color techniques in this particular image or in general? I the photo in question I played around the blue/yellow complementary pair, so well spotted :) But if you were asking in general - yes there are, they are all based on color wheel. I'm working currently on a new course that will cover color - you can put your name on my list to get updates if you like bit.ly/3pvRUj9

Hi Kasia, interesting video. How did you know where to place exactly the control points on each color channel so that it would end up looking like Agfa Vista? Actually I find that the curves on the data sheet from that webpage did look quite different... Thank you!

Hi Jorg, the graph from the webpage was a starting point, I’ve made further adjustments intuitively.

Another fab video and particularly like the balancing of colour consistency in the last image. If you are up for a challenge I can email you one of my raw files from this week (NEF) as really interested to see how you would approach and interpret.

really excellent. Why did you adjust RGB, and then each colour curve separately? Why not just adjust red, blue, green curves in turn and omit the overall RGB step? Thanks for excellent videos.
@KasiaZmokla4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ak! I've just responded to a similar question by *Ruud Maas* , please take a look above. I manipulated with the RGB curve to increase contrast in the image and set it right for the other adjustments on the curves - R, G and B.

Like your videos! But why are you not color grade this only with curves? Seems overly complicated!
@FabioCandido4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kasia. Thanks for this one, among the best. Could you please explain me why did you manipulated the luma curve in opposite way of rgb curve? It’s the first time I see this technique.
@KasiaZmokla4 жыл бұрын
Hi Fabio, thank you! On the RGB curve i set my contrast - can push blacks towards "matte", can dim the highlights and so on. The RGB curve affects color, by manipulating with control points the image gets more saturated. This step could be enough, but I like jumping over to the Luma curve to see what can be done here - it helps to reveal some shadow or highlights detail if needed. The combo: S-shaped RGB curve and Luma works sort of as HDR tool.

When color grading with curves do you always pull down shadows and pull up highlights on each channel or does it depend on the particular image? Great video!!!
@KasiaZmokla4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It always depends on an image.
@danbrowning24184 жыл бұрын
Great video. I have a question about the first image. The Agfa documentation showed the RGB channels as symetrical S curves. It showed Red as the brightest, followed by green, then blue. This was consistent through the darks, midtones and highlights. You used curves to create relatively symetrical S curves in each of the channels. So far, so good. However, looking at the RGB graph after you finished, the order of luminance was no consistent from the darks to the lights. My question is, is the luminance simply dependent on the particular image and therefore irrelevant when it comes to trying to match the color grade to the Agfa profile?
@KasiaZmokla4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Dan! As I've mentioned in the beginning of this video I would like to find out myself the "technicalities" behind shaping the R, G & B curves in that particular way. I've seen this pattern in one of the C1 styles - Agfa Vista 800. You can see it here www.dropbox.com/s/tvxx88dwla3xhxk/Screenshot%202021-02-02%20at%2015.56.56.jpg?dl=0 I have applied the Agfa Vista 800 style to unedited image. The video is inspired by the Agfa Vista look and the color grading I came up with is my freestyle work ;) From my further experiments I can see that manipulating with any of the R, G or B curves DOES affect the luminosity in the image quite strongly. I was moving for example the Red curve and looking at the Histogram. The Histogram reflected changes on the Red curve by shifting the grey line in the graph, which represents luminosity values. Hope this clarify your question a bit.
@danbrowning24184 жыл бұрын
@@KasiaZmokla Thank you. I did not realize the gray line was luminosity in the color tabs.

Color grading is realy a personal matter of taste. But You do make beautiful colorgrading with the tools. I'am in the process of selecting my photographs for creating a photobook of a special nature place near home. The theme of the book will be presenting the moods of the season of that location. So for every season a selection of photograhs representing that season. I will not use the same composition for each season. I use Fujifilm so for base starting point of editing the photos I did use "classic chrome" curve. Now I'am searching for a efficicient and easy method of color grading to emphasize the seasons of the year. How would you approach this? For further colorgrading "classic chrome" Would you generated with the color editor and color balance tool a personal style for each season or would you use the curves to create a style?. What colors would you emphasize for each season. Is there some color theory?
@KasiaZmokla4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Ruud! That's a great idea to create a personal project - a photo book. Fingers crossed! How would I approach this? First of all I would create a Session in C1, where I'd copy all the images that I want to have included in the book. You can put there the initial set and then edit the number down - to get the final number of images for the book. Then a good idea could be creating 4 Session Albums: Winter, Spring and so on, and filling them with images. Next I'd experiment with color grading those 4 sets / seasons. I would approach it intuitively though and play around with the color grading tools that are my favourites. So it depends which tools you are the most comfortable with. Once I'm happy with let's say summer edit - I'd copy all the adjustments and apply to other images. Important step here is to check what works and what needs to be changed. I am a big advocate of working in batches (reapplying once created adjustments and color grading) to similar photos, BUT every image is different and ALWYAS needs to be fine tuned individually. You can check my channel for color grading tips - I do have a video on autumn color grading, some other with cool wintery tones. You'd want to see this one: "How to create a SIGNATURE LOOK with STYLES in Capture One 20" kzbin.info/www/bejne/e57Cdn13g9-jY7c Hope this helps and hope to hear more on your project progress ✌

Hi Kasia, Thanks for your swift reaction. I did make a seperate Collection (not a session0 of all cadidate photographs on a seperate disk. Your hint for doing seperate selections for the seasons. Is a good one. I'am going to organise this. It will simplify the process of selcting the final photographs. In all it is allready a collection of photographs that are allready edited individually. I will look into your video about signature look. Because I want the photographs to get a collective look (color wise) for each season so that the colors of the seperate photographs do not diffentiate to much. Many thanks for your reaction..

@@ruudmaas2480 You are welcome. When it comes to putting together a book another important aspect is sequencing your images. You could print out small thumbnails on a home printer, cut them out and play around with them in order to create a compelling order. There is CTRL+Z once you create a hard copy of your portfolio. But holding a physical book is worth the effort.

I’m not sure on this, but I think if you are applying a similar S curve on the individual R,G,B channels will give you a similar effect as with doing the same curve on the RGB mixed one. So if you are doing it on both the RGB plus the individual channels, you will basically double the effect
@KasiaZmokla4 жыл бұрын
It makes sense. But adjusting individual curves even gently affects the image very strongly. So unless you will insert the same numeric values for control points on all curves, the manual adjustment won't be exactly "doubling" the effect from the RGB curve. Just thinking loud... :)
