I wish I could post a pic in here, I found prints miles out in the woods while doing some hiking/ shed hunting this spring. Found coyote tracks as well right next to it so you can see the size difference. Absolutely had to be a wolf or someone’s giant dog got away. This was just north of the WI Dells.

I hear there is a wolf pact by the river there north of the dells, not sure if that’s correct though. It would be neat to compare the two.

You might have one transient wolf, the rest are definitely coyotes. It is difficult to determine size without knowing or having a size reference. Generally when wolves are present, coyotes aren't because they are competitors. Packs of wolves will decimate an area of much of the larger game. I've seen a couple lone wolves in my 70 years in the West central Wisconsin. They are very large, with larger muzzles and longer bodies. I've only gotten one on a trail camera. We do have some very large coyotes in Wisconsin that can easily be mistaken for wolves.

@@williamgillis5976 thanks for sharing. Nothing really jumps out as a wolf from my captures but maybe one hybrid. There are a ton of coyotes in my area which leads me to think wolves aren’t active or they would have driven them out. They don’t really coexist to your point.

coyotes. Yotes have pointed ear-tips and narrow pointed snouts. Wolves have rounded ear-tips and wider snouts. Yotes have their 'trotting movement' and wolves either run as in a chase or walk... Wolves will make straight-line searches, youtes wonder all over like dogs. Wolves have big black dark spot on tail...where tail meets body. Yotes can have same... also Yotes have rippled fur patter just behind their shoulders... Woilves can be blotchy, all one color but without the ripple appearance behind the shoulders (as a Yote has). Yotes will yip and scream like a crying human baby at night....Wolves have a deep gutteral sound and their howling is a definite no mistaker! I love the haunting lone wolf howling... you KNOW you are in nature's realm when you hear a wolf howl...yes, both can travel in packs.... generally Yotes 3 or more... one Yote to get your attention and draw you out in the open, the other two await in the local bushes to attack your rear calf to bring you to the ground. Then all 3 go the kill....as always protect your neck area, face and head. Most predators go for the neck and above areas. The Yotes love to ambush you...most people don't see them coming until they have already been bit in the rear-area...Yotes have 5 to 11 pups usually in the spring... Jan through April...they use their multiple entrances/exits dug out dens...usually found on a steep ground slope.... hope this info helps all. Be CAUTIOUS in Yote country. Wolves usually are mostly shy of humans... Wolves will drive a deer out on an iced over river or lake and then the pack will surround the deer and have their lunch. Wolf packs have been spotted containing 20 or more Wolves... Do a KZbin SEARCH for 'coyote attacking humans'...(I live in northeastern MINNESOTA which is called the Minnesota ARROWHEAD Region). 🌲🐺

That’s a lot of useful info, thank you for sharing. At night we occasionally hear a very deal howl and according to DNR there are a couple wolf packs in our area however the abundance of yotes on my game trail camera disputes that since I’ve always been told that wolves will push coyotes out of their territory.

I have never heard of coyotes hunting humans. Coyotes are shy. I owned a Coy/GS when I was a teen - a very long time ago. She was the smartest, most well-trained canine pet I've ever had... and I've had many. Thanks for compiling the footage for our pleasure!

big healthy coyotes may be hybrids...coyote and wolf hybrids are getting to be a thing...Northern US states...Southern Ontario, Toronto area may have more hybrids than coyotes. Scary thought.

No you didn't capture any wolves because if there was wolves you wouldn't see that many coyotes. I live in Superior Wisconsin. There's coyotes running all over the streets here I've seen them. In my opinion they're more dangerous than wolves because wolf stay away from people, coyote don't care they'll come right up to you especially if you're walking your dog. I've seen one wolf in my lifetime and I'm 62 years old. I was driving out in the country one night and a white wolf walked right in front of my car and just stared at me and then he went right back into the woods. Wherever you film that there's way too many coyotes and they're dangerous.

Thanks for sharing! You are completely correct with all your points. Supposedly per DNR and some people on this area there are wolves but I agree with your assessment. We have too many coyotes for this area. Wolves wouldn’t tolerate that.
