In all the times I've seen this movie, a lot of which was a taping from network television so some things were removed, it wasn't until recent years that I noticed that Peter was getting the exact money figures from Egon. Egon was actually signaling Peter the numbers as he moved his hand towards his face. Four fingers as Egon went to rub his face and one finger as he touched his nose. All three men were brilliant in their work, but Egon was the real brain of the organization. Peter and Ray were more the faces of the company, but Egon was the one that knew what they needed in terms of tech and financials.

We see from the bargraph that Venkman has his thrower at Full Stream (5th “decal”). 01:08s It’s why Egon tells him to “shorten his stream”. You can tell at 03:00s that Egon (who also had his on Full Stream: 01:54s) has considerably reduced the output of his thrower (by a half) using the aluminum dial on the top of the thrower marked +1, +2, +3, probably after seeing all the destruction it did to the bar, while Venkman only turned it down a quarter after Egon tells him to “shorten his stream”. Three Quarter stream (4th decal) for Peter and Half Stream (3rd decal) for Egon makes sense looking at the difference in streams when capturing Slimer at the 03:00s minute mark. After Egon tells Peter to shorten his beam down from the Full Stream he started with at 01:08s. At 03:00s we also see that there is no immediate short term bar graph animation when firing. Although the bar graph steadily and slowly dropping when firing continously as overheat approaches is a realistic assumption one can make. From a usability standpoint you’d want to know how long you have left before the overheat when using different power modes. I think the same with the rotating barrel, rotating the front grip counterclockwise so the grip faces up and doesn’t allow a firm grip makes sense to me as a disarming safety feature for storage. The props were brilliantly thought out. The simplicity in their complexity of operation is beautiful. The only mistake the mass produced Matty and Hasbro wand have is starting with the lowest (empty) decal on the bargraph. There should be no stream, and it should not fire at that setting. The lower right switch (main power switch): Activates just the red light. The upper right switch (auxiliary systems switch): Activates the bar graph at the lowest light (empty decal) The lower left Activate switch (Cyclotron start): Fires up the cyclotron and the bar graph reads two lights (empty decal and quarter decal). Only now is it ready to fire. That is the lowest power setting. You can then use the aluminum dial marked +1, +2, +3 on the real prop to increase power to half stream, three quarter stream and full stream, to line up with the remaining 3 decals, if you need How these were thought out in 1984 is really brilliant.

I've always wondered if the beams hurt/burned the ghosts. If you go on the line "maybe you'll never slime a guy with a positron colider" and in The Real Ghostbusters cartoon, the episode with Killerwatt where Ray accidentally shoots Slimer, Slimer screams and blows on his tail which sounds like a candle does when you light it sometimes, it crackles as well as them saying "blast it" or even further on in the film where Ray shouts "roast him" in regards to Stay Puft. Might sound nerdy but it is a question I have always thought of because look at it from a real perspective. Dan Ackroyd states Slimer is based on John Belushi in which case, not only has Ray caused great pain to his friend, he has contained him for life, not to mention is Harold Ramis had to be captured now. Imagine if it was your Mum or Dad. Bizarre.
