This is the best tutorial I have seen on mechanical/electrical subjects. The people at the auto stores in the US do not know or understand many of these things and will tell you to get a new alternator or battery, when the problem is often elsewhere. They just don't know enough to help you, so knowing all of these details yourself is the way to go, even if you get someone else to do the work. Thank you!

lower amps at alternator than at the battery means a bad alternator?

Very good vid just subscribed I’ll tell you why.WHY because you brought up battery recharge current don’t know to many technicians who if check or know how to check CHEERS my compliments

Why are you measuring DC Amps? Doesn't the Alternator put out AC Amps?
@mikedinho74069 ай бұрын
the alternator itself produces AC electricity but the AC is converted to DC by the diode rectifier because the battery only accepts DC voltage/current

hello, my dynamo is 14 in good measurement, but it does not charge, 12.08 comes out while the vehicle is running, how can we solve this problem?
@YouTilitarian2 жыл бұрын
Looks like you have resistance in your charging circuit... or are you running too many power hungry accessories?
@davezemba13528 ай бұрын
No it produces AC then the diodes convert that into DC. Your diodes are a solid-state unit on the back of the alternators.
Is it possible for the voltage regulator to cause a low voltage reading if it is going bad and maybe not the alternator? I keep getting conflicting info on this.
@YouTilitarian2 жыл бұрын
The job of a voltage regulator is to not let the charging voltage go above a certain point. If it goes bad, you'll get voltages north of 14.5v. Low reading could be a result of any of the reasons discussed in the video, including a bad alternator...

In my case is when I put on full blast AC, the voltage 0.5 Volts to ECU

Hi I have a honda just like that. And I noticed that when Im driving or I pressed on gas pedal my voltage drop as I read on my voltmeter inside the car. I can also feel it with my fan accessories that it gets weaker.

Hi, can you help me with something? I have a positive and negative wire going to the back of my van. This wire was used to power a wheelchair lift. I gave the lift away and now I have the cut wires. How can I figure out how many amps it can provide? I know hoe to test volts but how do I test those two wires, positive and negative, to know how many watts are coming out? Thank you.
@YouTilitarian3 жыл бұрын
Amps can't be tested like you test voltage. You have to have some appliance drawing current through that wire to be able to check the amps... the reading you get could be high or low depending on the appliance. If you're asking how much the wire can handle, one way is to check the gauge of the wire to ascertain the amp rating specified for it. You can then safely use the same wiring for any application within that range. Hope it helps!

How do you measure the amps on the battery only
@YouTilitarian2 жыл бұрын
You just want to measure how much amps are going to the battery while it is being charged by the alternator? Ya phir you're interested in finding out the battery's ability to produce cca?

why did you check across fuse? and not say what you were looking for?
@YouTilitarian3 жыл бұрын
At 08:20 when I check across the fuse, I do mention that sometimes the fuse might be putting up some resistance which could be the source of that voltage drop.

Alternator theory is involved with rpm (revolutions per minute) vs Hz (cycles per second) and the amount of poles in the alternator. Like North and South pole= 2 poles and North, south, east, west poles = 4 poles as related to rpm's and hz. Just thought I would add that comment.
