Wow, Rambus memory. It's been ages since I've seen any of that. It reminds me of the old saying when DDR first came out. Some used to say it stood for Don't Do Rambus :D

Makes me feel rather old. I bought 8 of those Dell's new along with a Windows 2000 server for an architects office 20+ years ago...

Well just looking at the Dell back and seeing most of the slots occupied would have made me pay 20+ for that, in my experience those are usually enthusiast PC usually with good and sometimes exotics parts in it.

I know that feeling. I bought a faulty amp for £20 mint condition (RRP £150), Its now mine after it turns out not faulty at all, can't bring myself to sell it which was my original intention. I now have dj mixer bought for £80 faulty (RRP £250), again I cant replicate the fault but tempted to keep it myself as I want to learn vinyl mixing. Buy things to sell, but you get such a bargain....

Any mosfet will work, if the polarity is correct. Not much deference.

I was a huge fan of Dell because of their dependability and support. But....because pretty much everything is propriety, the case, the PSU, the motherboard, etc. you can't just upgrade it well at all. I toasted a BIOS doing an update once, and was left with a paperweight. Trying to change out the BIOS was beyond my skills at the time, the case wouldn't fit any other aftermarket board, the PSU was specific to that motherboard without heavy modifications that probably wouldn't work. For my mother or other very basic users, I'd still recommend them, although I think their quality has dropped to keep the prices low.

Would be nice if you finish the repair on the board with an update video to see it actually working.

The i3 i5 i7 Gen 4 are and will be usable good computers for Windows 7 64bit dual boot with contemporary (Debian 12) Linux. My advise is Q4OS. Possible to install it from Win 7 (install.exe) onto a NTFS file (give it minimum 120 GB) which is not a virtual machine but dual boot. When your Training School customer are going to switch to Win 11 😬, Gen 4 PCs might become problematic where Win 11 as such shouldn't be considered at all. ☝️

Its a marketting call centre (outgoing) not a training school, they are still using some Wndows 7 PCs so I doubt they have any need to switch to Windows 10

Where the Pentium 4 computers are and won't become IMHO "a collector's item", this DELL is one of the exceptions ! IF as a complete working one ! Please do not sell it in parts, which would be a SIN ! 😇

Be careful accepting what the ram label says. I came across one recently which said 16GB. It said it on all 4 ram strips so the PC had 64GB total, yes? Absolutely not, it had 16GB total, the label was for the kit of 4 strips and it's something that occurs frequently. Of course, I should have realised sooner, it was DDR2 so there were no 16GB ram strips.
