Would these be the same issues in a diesel engine coz my 2015 ford everest has been burning oil for a few weeks now but its only every couple of days at traffic lights

I have a 2000 crv that emits a lot of white/blue smoke that smells bad while accelerating, and closest I’ve came was burning too much oil. Does anyone know why?

what ended up being the issue?

If the compression, the crankcase ventilation and the valve seals are ok, could it be the oil rings that are worn/damaged which are the reason that the engine uses a lot of oil? The engine in my car has been run hot/overheated once by the previous owner.
@1Mannco Жыл бұрын
Not sure, overheating isn't good and can do some damage. First change your PCV valve, that's important and easy on a lot of cars..Then if you want but if you're not sure you can skip this advice but...Maybe try putting in 4-8 oz of Seafoam in the oil now, drive it for 300 miles more and then change the oil. Maybe put a little thicker oil like if you use 0w/20 try 5w/20..5w/20 to 5w/30?..if you are in really cold weather now like around 0 or below maybe don't do it, some gas mileage may suffer, not much. When changing your oil leave a quart of room and you can try Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer and put a quart in with the oil. Drive it then change the oil and filter after 3,000 miles. Check the level weekly, if it goes down top it off with oil or better-Marvel Mystery Oil and keep changing it at 3k miles. If nothing works then somebody else may have ideas or go to a mechanic.

@@1Mannco Since the engine has been checked at a bmw workshop that the PCV is in order, the compression is ok, and there are no blue smoke when starting at cold engine nor when the engine brakes when downshifting which are typical symptoms of bad valve seals, I think it is the oil rings which is damaged due to an overheated engine

I found Honda and Toyota run very low vacuum in their PCV System.2 to .8inH2O. Hook a HVAC Manometer to your dipstick tube and run it watching it while driving normally. You need 1. to 3.inHg. What I found was many OE's run way too low of a vacuum to pull the blowby and carbon away from the ring pack. I found my 12 TL was under pressure intermittently during normal driving around town. 10 MDX the same thing. This is too low for good function and longevity of the engine. I've since changed mine to the higher vac to extend the life of it. If you have to have short OCI's(Oil Change Intervals) or you'll stick rings and create an oil consumption problem this is the problem. On any engine you should feel a slight vacuum with the engine running at hot/idle when you remove the oil filler cap. It's better to measure to get a true reading and the Manometer is 35 bucks off of amazon. I found a chart that specified 5 of 32 BMW engines run 0.00mbar at hot/idle which in stop and go traffic will destroy the oil in a short time. Correct the vacuum and run the Valvoline Restore and Protect oil changing the filter frequently until the oil consumption is gone. At 5inHg you can eliminate or run extremely Low Tension rings and no Valve seals. No oil on top of the piston crown. Oil has an Octane of 40 and wants to detonate in the Combustion process. Carbon from Blowby is sticky and accumulates at the ring pack but in small amounts. It takes a while for this problem to develop. Watch some engines being torn down on here and watch closely the heavy carbon at the rings of the pistons, heavy carbon on top of the piston. The evidence is there. Heavy varnish buildup throughout the crankcase leading to the bottom of the pistons is another sign. The engine should be cleaner on the inside than the outside or there's something wrong.
