Waking up on location is so much fun. Stayed in a large wooden bird hide on one of the Orkney Isles, woke up at 5.30 am and watched 2 courting otters in the loch, swimming entwining and presenting plant material. Was bikepacking, so unfortunately didn't have camera and tele lens with me, just small binocs. Since then bought a camo low rider fishing brolly, fitted a camo front panel on to it - so I can sleep in it next to a wildlife site. Nice Tawny you found. ATB.

Always a joy to get notification of a new vlog from you. Watched from the sofa with a nice mug of tea, so relaxing. Re the Tawny’s I have a couple I can hear in a small copse 150 Mtrs from my house, I’ve never seen them, I’ve looked for pellets so I can tell which tree they favour…nothing! I often think “I can’t see you, but I bet you’ve seen me” 🦉

Hope you're keeping well anyway, that's really the main thing - not good to force yourself to do things if you're not feeling it right now. I have a Z7ll with 3 lenes but thats for landscapes and for wildlife the Olympus Em1x + 150-400mm TC1.25 IS Pro. It’s a great combination as double focal length. I’m waiting for a OM-1. As usual, Simon, I really enjoyed your video. I tried a different portable light weight camo today. I bought about 2 yards of camo mosquito netting and put a slit in the middle of it large enough for my 500 mm lens to fit through. I set up my tripod and my folding chair, fit the lens through the slit, and folded the top of the camo over my head and sides and the bottom of it over my tripod and my legs. I could see through it well enough to see birds land and the breeze blowing through kept it cool enough. I was shooting within 18-ft at some very wary birds that paid me no attention at all after I got set up. I have used that same piece of netting to cover the tailgate when I was vehicle camping in my truck in warm weather. It's light weight and the birds don't seem to see through it from the outside at all.

Not yet camped in the car but discovered its a great hide, not 4x4 but a qashqai, living in cumbria often thought be good idea.. gonna get some camo netting. Not on yourscale but just from the car just off car park on ancient woodland bullrinches, greater spotted woodpeckers, cuckoo and Jays, missed the buzzard carrying off some dead prey. Have minor disability at mo, so this is great idea. Just one question: how do you deal with condensation

when i go out with my 600mm f4, i wear khaki clothes, and use a camouflage scrim net that covers me, like a quick-cloak from harry potter AKA an invisibility net. with a brim hat on, its not too bad, and the heat can dissipate easily. i keep it tied around the huge lens hood, and it acts as a bit of protection too for the lens for resting on walls etc. i try to keep it as light as possible on walkabout. gonna be doing a couple of overnights myself. theres something so special waking up early and being outside at sun-up.

Hi Simon, you have been an inspiration. My wife and I love your videos. We are ammazed at how much time you fit in and how you manage to lay flat in a confined space for hours on end. We are getting on a bit now (69 and 67) and lack your fitness and flexibility. But we love wildlife and your photos and videos are excellent and really nicely presented. I have the SIgma 150-600 lens (sadly only on a Nikon D7100) and it is great. I am now considering a D500! Unfortunately,, I cannot cope with carrying loads of extra kit about these days and certainly cannot afford a Z9! I wonder, though, if you have a list or links to the lightweight camo netting and scrim stuff you use?? At least I might manage to carry that! Anyway, please carry on the good work! Thanks again.

@@simoneardley hi Simon, thanks for the reply. I managed to trawl through the descriptions of your videos on my laptop as the details don't appear when I view via the KZbin app on my TV. I found links to what I was mainly interested in. I would be interested in the D500 but I am worried that the shutter life is around 200,000 actuations and I guess you will have already used or exceeded those with your prolific output. Please let me know though and also what price you are looking for. If you are selling ALL your Nikon gear what system are you moving over too?
