Took the seats apart while cleaning an old Toyota Sequoia. The inside of the plastic panel on the bottom of the seats had a thick coat of some brown-black tar like substance that smelled like death. Cleaning it was a combination of scrapers followed by about a dozen passes with hot water and dish soap. Not sure what it was, but some of the dirty water made it to the grass and killed it...

Not detailing related, but I went to see a car my friend recently bought, and decided to show him how to replace the cabin filter (an often neglected maintenance item) To his utter shock, we found mouse poop on it. Luckily, he didn't run the AC or fans yet. Replace your cabin filters!

A lot of people forget or don’t know they exist. I bought a 2000 Silverado in 2020 that even on the highest setting barely blew anything. The truck was very well maintained otherwise. Took out the cabin air filters and leaves, dust, dirt, you name it fell out if the compartment. I had to shove a brush in there to loosen up all the packed in dirt. Judging by the way the CAF’s looked, the amount of junk in there, and the fact they said ACDELCO on the side, they most likely had to be the factory originals. It’s a wonder the blower motor didn’t burn up. Now she freezes you out on speed #1

I used to work at Circuit City; I was an installer in the Roadshop. One day we got a woman who came in wanting a new radio for her Integra. We picked out the radio together, she pulled her car around back, it was business as usual. I finished up the paperwork and took her keys, then went out back to drive her car into the shop. I opened the door and everywhere but the drivers seat was completely full of trash. I filled up 3 bigass trash cans with McDonald's bags and soda cups. She had air fresheners everywhere, all over the back seats and in the cup holders. I had finally reached bedrock. Problem is, with later Integras, there's two ways to get the radio out. Option 1 is to remove the entire dash. Option 2 is to get up behind the dash and unscrew the for screws holding the radio in. Obviously, as an installer, option 2 is the way to go. But this car was a cesspit. As the FNG (Fuckin new guy), I had the honor of getting in the passenger floorboard to get those screws out. The carpets had been matted with a combination of ketchup, soda, barbeque sauce, dog hair and urine. Before I dove in, I lined the floor with a canvas seat protector. Got in there, gagging, and got the screws out. Did the same on the driver's side. Afterwards, the canvas seat cover I used was covered with this black goo. I took it out back and burned it.

I run a small interior detailing business in MN. Nastiest thing I’ve ever found was someone using their center console as the home for used tissues. This thing was PACKED with brown, crusty tissues that had turned into a solid block from all the dried snot. Of course the snot had glued it in, along with long, dyed-black hair to the console. I had to chip it out with tiny dried snot-flakes flying. As I was removing the solid cake of tissues, the weight of it being freed as I was moving it into a garbage bag made it fall apart, revealing a gooey center that hadn’t dried. I had to jump out and quickly take my respirator off, because vomiting was no longer optional.

Though you probably already picked a winner. I still want to leave a comment. This happened to be my own car. This happens when my first born was a baby. My now ex-wife and I would get in the car and we started smelling something that resembled a dirty diaper. So no big deal, we'll just change our daughter's diaper. As time went on we noticed, the smell was getting worse. As the days started getting hotter, we thought maybe a dirty diaper rolled under the seat. So I looked but didn't see anything really. I just noticed a white sock under the rear part of the front passenger seat, it being dark cause of tinted windows, I was like that fell out after doing laundry. I never took it out. Finally on an over 100⁰ day, it got to bad, we had to roll the windows down. This was just a couple of days after seeing the sock. After arriving at my in-laws house I decided to look again, but really look. Still nothing, well I thought. I pulled the sock our I forgot to remove and when pulling it out, it had some weight to it. When I got it all the way out, a dead rat was stuck to it. 🤦♂️ at that time I worked in an area full of warehouses, I believe it may have got in my car through a window and couldn't get out, Once I rolled all the windows up in the heat, it must have died. Just thought I'd share that 🤷♂️. Lastly, thanks for the videos. I'm currently thinking of getting into the business of detailing. A lot of my experience (almost 20yrs) of detailing schools goes almost right along with this as far as techniques used and tricks of the trade. Happy Detailing my friend. 👊🏼

I recently got an old family car back after it had been sitting for years. It's a 94 Grand Cherokee that had been sitting under a tree for a long time, there were several wasp nests all around the outside. The interior carpet was destroyed from water damage and leaked coolant in the back. The entire passenger floor was covered in hundreds of moltings from some kind of bug each about an inch long. The whole carpet had to be replaced. If it wasn't for the standing water in it rusting half of the bolts getting the carpet out wouldn't have been that bad.

As I have said in the past I would like to see their residence. Worst mess, in 1970 I clean the interior of my 65 Mustang whose previous owner was a heavy smoker. It was surprising how well the coating of the tar and nicotine preserved the chrome trim in the dash.

I was helping Online Grocery Pickup at a store and I opened up a door and it was a hoarder van. They actually wanted me to brush their dirty underwear to the side to sit their groceries down around it.

Dumb question but extractors have two option right? To suck and spray water or just suck right?
