Thanks for all the tips! I think the accessories that I've used most with my GolfR is those CarGo Blocks, the velcro on them tends to hold things in place really well. Saves your eggs and sturdy enough to corral 5gal water containers. The other accessory is changing the rear view mirror over to one that has homelink (an optionally an in-glass compass). Wiring it up is pretty easy to do and there are adapters so you don't have to worry about accidentally cracking your windshield taking off the stock mount, and to top it off its all easily reverted back.

Hanging the fob on the column reminded me of something. My father is a longtime mechanic. His brother had a '98 Ranger for many years. The Ranger's immobilizer chip in the ignition key became an issue when the ignition lock cylinder needed to be replaced. I recall Dad saying something about keeping the old key or even gluing the old key under the dash because of how prohibitively expensive it was to get the Ford dealer to program a new key. I don't recall what the final outcome was, but my uncle drove it for many years after that.

Definitely will try those blind spot mirrors as my instructor had them when I was learning and they helped me to see the white bay lines when parking much better. Also that cup holder trick is very clever as I have a cold bottle of water in the car to keep alert and hydrated but the condensation causes staining when it dries in the hot sun. I’d love to make a few little mods (nothing much) just to make it more functional (especially for my second hand music shopping which is why I wanted a CD player. And I approve of the manual transmission, I’ve never driven an automatic so can’t say much but like the control that the manual offers, especially as you can drive in a sporty way or economical, whatever you want. Autos are kinda of a rare sight anyway in the UK, I don’t know many people who only drive autos. Anyway thank you for that video

Nice to see an update, Kevin. The trunk hook is something VW lifted across from Skoda. So my 2016 Octavia is effectively built on the same MQB chassis as your Jetta, but it’s hatchback with a saloon profile. The exact same flip down bag carrier is standard on the right hand side of the trunk. However, I have little things like a pad in that space in front of the gear lever (where the USB interface and your torch is) that wirelessly charges a phone put in there, an ice scraper inside the petrol cap which is Skoda only, and even a parking pass / ticket holder clip on the windscreen like in a Volvo too. I actually rented an identical Jetta to yours in San Francisco last year and really liked it - and it is a little bit different to the Skoda, which is nice, but also felt very familiar. I also noticed the Skoda has borrowed the driving mode selector from the Audi, so I can choose how stiff or soft my steering is, and how economical my gearbox is (I went for 7-Speed DSG instead of manual).

Instead of the hook. Try this. If you have a car with this option, remove the fob from your set of keys. On the fob, find a small ring along with a small charm. (On mine, I have a clip. A little large. It’s a little larger than 1/2 of the size of the fob.) But you say, what do I do with it. The answer is put it in your pocket. Then you would say, but I have other keys. What do I do with them. The answer is drop them in the door pocket when you get in your car. (At one point I had a small group of keys for work. I would have 2 sets of keys in the door pocket when I was in my car. When I got/get home, I grab my keys. When I would get in the car, drop them back into the door. Then when I would park the car at work, I would then grab my work keys, before I went into work.) As for as the fob, just keep it with you all day/night, according to your schedule. When it’s time to clean your pockets out at the end of the day. Put your fob with your items, and reload the next day.

Is the single-tone horn a "base model" thing? I'm pretty sure that my 2017 Tiguan has a dual-tone horn. I recently had to take a Land Rover tire to the tire shop for patching and a replacement valve stem, I threw an old blanket in the back of the Tiguan and draped it over the rear bumper so I wouldn't scratch it while loading and unloading the wheel. Excellent idea for the center console puddle holder, I'll have to get some of those pads. I got my car in September 2017, it has just under 7500 miles on it now. That's not a typo, I have a very short commute.

I realise that it's a common key design for lots of VAG vehicles, but what i'm getting at is that i'm surprised it was still in use up to (and maybe beyond) 2018. For example, my 2011 Passat B7 uses a totally different design that's inserted into a slot in the dash and used like a push button starter. My car is 7 years older, hence the surprise factor.

Same, but at least you can learn something useful for your parents or friends that can drive

What do you think of the sound quality on XM? Personally I thought it was too poor to be worth the price, but I guess it's hard to tell when you're barrelling down the highway.

It's OK. Not great, but OK.

Excellent! Also, (almost) every Ford has built-in blind spot mirrors. No idea why other manufacturers never copied that feature. 🤷🏽♂️

My 2017 F150 is the first vehicle I have owned to come with them from the factory. They are so great to have, it is hard to go back to a car without them!
